karl-inspired musings
Just a thought everyone - was listening to Karl's interview with Colin Murray on radio 1 and they touched upon Karl's habit of writing down, with great eloquency, his daily observations - he included his most recent musing/addition. It got me thinking, as someone who is single, and who enjoys walks/wanders/general perusing, maybe I should start to scribble down thoughts/observations etc to use in a creative process. And so, maybe we could all submit an interesting daily/quaint/odd/dubious/seriously weird observation.
Here is my first @ 23.40 gmt sat "Screetchy cacklings of post-club kitchen comedown "do you want milk in your coffee??" drift across from flat 7 to disturb my chill-out musings" |

Re: karl-inspired musings
It's something I've considered in the past as well Crazysugarboy, and if it feels like something you enjoy doing, and you can make it your own, that's great. But I also echo Dubman's thoughts that it shouldn't be simply an exercise in copying whatever Karl does. I'm sure people would come up with some cool results but I'd rather see people pursue their own creative avenues.
Now of course just because you might observe and write down stuff, this doesn't neccesarily mean you're copying Karl. As I said, if you can make it your own that's cool. I do find that, I guess because of my long and intense exposure to Karl's writings, my own thoughts seem to wander in those directions more often as well; just observing the world around me, listening to what people are saying to eachother. But I don't feel any particular need to write it down at the moment.

Re: karl-inspired musings
I think "make it your own" is the key, yes.
Karl wasn't the first to use this technique; it's not something he invented. Yet he took the inspiration from others and developed it into his own inimitable style. And Crazysugarboy can be inspired by Karl's style to develop his own. And so art and literature grows and develops.

Re: karl-inspired musings
If Karl inspires people to reflect and examine on things a little bit closer with his lyrical style, its only a good thing. After listening to Ring Road, i've been taking it my surroundings a bit more.

Re: karl-inspired musings
I am also thankful to UW for making me sense the world in a different way... Recently, i was inspired by the "city walk" recordings.
Last time I was waiting around in the airport terminal, I closed my eyes and just listened. The footsteps, mumblings, snippets, shoe shiners, high heels passing, jets leaving, everything melded together. There's so much that you can really appreciate in the details. Along with it came a sense of happiness. Funny how something as simple as closing your eyelids can do that for you. And i remembered an uwlive diary when Karl was sitting around Logan airport listening to "Logan Radio" and a bitching couple. Brought a smile to my face realizing that Karl was here, doing the same thing about a week earlier. SO.... yeah. UW, keep on inspiring me and doing what you do. You make me appreciate the world in ways i never knew possible. Don't know if this is relevant to the thread, but it feels appropriate. Whatever? |
