Can - Tago Mago
Anyone here into Can? Just pulled this one out and it's as blinding as ever. I think krautrock rhythms merit a second look, especially in light of the DFA's popular but relatively straightforward (some might say "streamlined") productions. On the other hand, "Augmn" is my favorite on this LP and it doesn't even have beats.

Re: Can - Tago Mago
Yes! Can is my favorite band, and Tago Mago I believe is their best release, and one of my favorite discs ever. I love the way they were able to take a simple concept...their songs are mostly just jamming over a groove...but they turn it into a living, breating thing. That whole band is frighteningly talented...I even really like Suzuki because of this CD..."Peking 0" was always one of my favorite tracks...it's hilarious!
Have you got the two follow ups? (Ege Bamyasi and Future Days) Because they're nearly as good, and I'd give five stars to all three. There's a quality to these releases that transcends time...for someone who's never heard of the band it would be very tough to put an actual date on this. That's true of a lot of those German bands...I remember playing the track "Krautrock" by Faust in my car and my friend really liked it...I asked him to put a year on it and he said 1999...26 years late! Re: Can - Tago Mago
Yeah, I love Can. I know them since listening to the New Order`s Back To Mine... In their music you can always find new moments.
EDIT:This really started my Krautrock experience.

On another note, which Neu! and Faust (and otherwise kraut) releases would folks recommend? |

As far as other krautrock, I'm not too sure...La Dusseldorf - Viva and Harmonia - Deluxe are good, but real tough to find. I'm starting to listen to Amon Duul and I'm liking them quite a bit... |

Re: Can - Tago Mago
You know I really can't get into Can at all and I think I am pretty fond of experimental music. I like the singer though.
I hope that someday it'll grow on me because I bought both Tago Mago and Eye Bambyasi. I've been listening to Amon Duul II, is this kautrock too(?), anyways I like it a lot. I have to check Neu! |
