Carling Weekend Reading/Leeds
Just a note to all the festival heads who've so far maybe missed out on T In The Park or V. The Carling Weekend tickets go on sale at 7:30pm on the 3rd of April. I'm going with a few mates the lineup's often pretty good - last year's dance tent was a bit of a disgrace but usually it's top drawer material. Hints and hopes for this year include:

Primal Scream
Fun Lovin' Criminals
Soulwax Nite Versions (I'd put money on them headling the dance tent one night)
Pendulum
Placebo
Daft Punk
The Go! Team
The Rapture
Tom Vek
Death In Vegas
New Order
Stereo MCs

edit:
I suppose some links wouldn't go amiss....

Re: Carling Weekend Reading/Leeds
OK so I bagged two tickets, just we've agreed not to camp in Piccadilly this year (ref: http://www.dirty.org/forums/showthread.php?t=952) which is a shame as every single year Leeds has been at Bramham Park I've pitched my tent in the very, very same spot.
The lineup is a big let down so far (http://www.leedsfestival.com) but I'm gonna refresh my memory about Pearl Jam and maybe go see them. Primal Scream excite me but I'll maybe catch them at T In The Park (plus I'm wearing down a mate who has tickets for their QMU gig in Glasgow). Last time I saw Placebo they were tremendous, as were Feeder - again though both acts are at T In The Park.
The biggest sin however is the indication that the Lockup Stage (noisy thrash metal with what appears to be the same lineup every year) is going two days which means that unless the Comedy Tent goes from three days to one day, the Dance Tent will go to one day. It's a shame as the Carling Weekend was just shaking off its metal-only image and now it's taking a step backwards - and to what? Download has stolen the crown and won't be giving it up as the UK's big metal-fest. That tosser at Mean Fiddler said last year he wanted the Carling Weekend to be more like Glastonbury - unless the proposed expansion they're reporting includes another stage (for dance and hip-hop) he's talking his usual pish.
Also, while I'm slagging Mean Fiddler.. I've had to keep an eye on that over-moderated, sniping, pleb-fest that is the forums at http://www.efestivals.co.uk for news and couldn't help but notice how pissed off they all get at touts on eBay. Short of registering on there (nah..) to chuck this notion into the conversation (which I haven't seen suggested anywhere else) I'll put it here - I wonder if Mean Fiddler runs a nice sideline in double price festival tickets on eBay.. I mean some touts have got a history of hundreds of festival tickets sold and when they're on sale the touts have hundreds available at a time per user. It'd be a clever wee way to raise extra cash, no?

a friend a few years back worked at one of those london ticket agencies where u can literally get tickets for anything if your prepared to pay the heavy asking price. he said that the agency had deals with virtually every major promoter about as did other ticket agencies/touts.

he explained it to me that the promoters always hold back a % of sales for everything, % depends on the # tickets to be sold. these would then be given to a combination of friends who they owed favours to (usually shady characters if you catch my drift), their teams of street touts on sale or return, and agencies would put in request for how many they needed and promoters would usually get 30% of final sale value + face value. all of it was done under the radar of the official books too, so it would be cash people could pocket without having to pay tax on.

he went as far as to say the promoters make nearly as much money out of this dealings as they do out of the official sales, especially for big games/shows

and as the new fast automatic daffodils said 'its not what you know, its who you know'

I suspected so, it's too much of a money spinner for them not to be. Laughable how not one of the clowns at efestivals has suggested it

Re: Carling Weekend Reading/Leeds
And Mean Fiddler once again show everyone how far from the pulse they are. Dance tent announced and as predicted, one day. I know I go to Leeds but Reading is the same thing - didn't Reading used to be cool and dangerous? Sad..
