Matisyahu
It's pretty hard to take a Hasidic Reggae singer seriously but this guy's new single, "King Without a Crown (Live)" is pretty damn hot. I don't even like reggae very much but I love the lyrics and the overall spirituality of this track.
Anyone else heard this yet? |

Re: Matisyahu
Yeah, i've heard it. It's different, that's for sure, and not too bad. Reggae's not really my thing, either.
They were hyping this guy on MTV...just to see him, i was like, "WHAAAAaah? What channel is this?" But the video's decent and the rhymes are good. Matisyahu reminds me a lil bit of Snow from the early 90's...just the curiosity factor: a white canadian doing Jamaican dancehall?! In 2006, Snow's been replacd with a hasidic jew.

Re: Matisyahu
Yeah....go out and get "Live at Stubb's" you'll be impressed.
Track 7 is a wild adventure in beatboxing if nothing else. His new (studio) album will be out in early March. They're even playing the new single from it on our rock station now!

Re: Matisyahu
I hear that song on the radio frequently. It seems he's falling in with the jam-band following.
A year or two ago my friend comes in and says, "Hey there's this concert by this Hasidic Jew reggae artist tonight. Wanna go?" We drive to Jewish Community Center in Houston. Much to our suprise, it's sold out. I guess I missed my chance to get in on the ground floor with this one. |
