write-ups like that are proof that old celebrities like him turn into the butt of jokes for the next 30 years until they finally die, and then they're the most important people somehow, as if the humor we know now would somehow be less if not for them. so confusing...

he was a decent, kind hearted man who was in his share of amusing TV and some not so amusing.

never watched andy griffith, but threes company will always be the hotness for me. i loved furley. the episodes by that point were very formulaic and had lost a lot of what little edge the show had but they were funny. solely for furley and jacks expressions and acting. didnt hurt that janet was five kinds of cute as well. the ghost and mr chicken was hilarious. its sort of sad that he did become the butt of jokes as it was put.. because he did what he did very well and always played the most unpretentious of characters which always makes me enjoy the actor.
