online release explained...?
so, looking at the press, uw are sitting with lots of material, but no record deal. so hats off for the creative thinking - but it still leaves me worried that there's not going to much in the way of "in the hand" touchy-feely product for some time to come.

Re: online release explained...?
you get to touch and feel your credit card and your blank cds and your printer......isn't that enough?
![]() but for real though, the "soundtrack" should be in stores right?

but if you see the listings elsewhere for new tracks, they're still listed as JBO, but this may be out of habit, most people who make the dj tracklistings out don't seem to know that UWare no longer the JBO label... unless i am wrong, but the last time i spoke via email with Steve (Hall) at JBO he said that UW were not gonna be on the Junior Boys Own Label as the contract expired... i think most of the new material will be on a new UWR label, as is indicated by the cat number for the LBT download...

no it was a mutal agreement... and most of the more recent international stuff for UW went through V2... they weren't dropped afaik... JBO have been a bit quite of late and didn't think that they could do justice to the phenomenon that UW have become (hence the V2 licencing deal worldwide) (JBO are just a mid sized UK house label really, and Underworld are a bit bigger than that... - no offence Steve )although JBO are still knocking out some quality tunage they are by no means as prolific or mainstream as they were when they had Underworld and the Dust (Chemical) Brothers & X-press 2 on their books... and officially the deal was for 10 years which is pretty much a long time in dance music - that came up, with the anthology - UW were'nt doing anything at that time, neither were JBO and they parted company as far as i understand it....

Re: online release explained...?
Many bands start their own record labels when their initial contracts run out. I think it was more common a while back (1970s, i.e. Led Zeppelin, Moody Blues, others), but most recently, Oasis' Big Brother Label.
The fact that UW "don't have a record deal" is not a cause for alarm that record companies don't think their stuff is good enough or something...

Re: online release explained...?
and the most important thing is that UW themselves have said they are very happy with their newfound freedom as it enables them to take Underworld into new directions that were not possible while being parterned to a traditional record label.

Re: online release explained...?
As long as i hear music from them, i dont' care who releases it. With LBT, a real record label would spend to much time trying to promote it. Now that they have the web freedom, we can get stuff when UW feel like giving us something. And it seems a new download could come soon based on the new things floating around.
