Pendulum - In Silico
This is a fantastic, MUST HAVE album! That is all.

There's currently some XM radio and vinyl rips of a few tracks on "the Bay" btw; and an official 12 minute minimix on Pendulum's website.

I heard this was garbage, and it kinda sounds like a half-baked DNB-Rock hybrid.

Err, this linkee no workie?

Anyway, i was just listening to Prodigy's "Their Law" hits cd and i do enjoy the Pendulum remix of "Voodoo People", but that's all i knew by them. Checked out their myspace...some okay beats and sounds, but the vocals = yuck. For some reason, i kept being reminded of late 90's metaltronica Pitchshifter, which is not a good thing to be reminded of. A whole CD of the like tracks might be a bit too heavy for my tastes (and the collab/remix with Linkin Park is a big strike 3, imho!)

The radio clips are kinda meh. Granite is f***ing dope, but they others don't quite do it for me. Booooo.

Re: Pendulum - In Silico
It's leaked, so I gave it a listen to hear what I'll be getting when the preorder ships.

I'm disappointed, even if it didn't quite deserve the mp3 tags it's been given (genre = 'shit') there's none of the open-minded 'bit of everything' feel that 'Hold your colour' had, just 10 very similar tracks, all in a rock+2 step beat style, all with the same rock guitar sound, and all with the same 'vocoded because I can't sing very well' vocals. What's worse is that the 'el hornet minimix' covers all the good bits - 'the other side' has a great chorus which is in the minimix, but the rest of the track sucks.

Having said that, it's not terrible. If this was the the first album by a new band I'd be recommending it, because it does have a unique feel... but as a follow up to such a monumental album as 'hold your colour', which had a dozen unique feels, it just doesn't cut it. From 14 exciting tracks on their first album, Pendulum have somehow ended up with 10 cookie cutter tracks, half of which are pretty much just filler.

If you've never heard Pendulum, you MUST hear 'Hold your Colour'. It's a landmark album that polarises opinion. 'In silico' on the otherhand... try the first single from this, 'Granite' video here , and only invest in the new album if you want more of the same but not quite as good.
