Re: Underworldlive version 3.0 thread
Which truly is a shame but that is by their choice, make the promotional material appeal to collectors by including material that is not available on the standard release, send it out to some douche on the rotation list who is not going to use it for it's intended purpose but supplement his/her income by selling it to the highest bidder. Sadly it is whomever makes the material available who makes the money.
Indeed it is but at times I can't help feeling that I am being punished for loyalty and having an obsessive compulsive disorder when it come down to the music though. Agreed. Quote:

OWB (Japanese) ended up costing me £50+ after I got stung for duty. I would rather spend this money directly but as it stands this option doesn't exist.... Here's hoping. |

Re: Underworldlive version 3.0 thread
I agree with the collective that this is quite underwhelming. Don't get me wrong, it's wonderful that Underworld have finally made some progress on this digital store, and I'm glad it looks like it will be archival.
But beginning with EPs and promo singles that are already several years old seems rather a bad idea, as fans loooooong ago gave up hope of the band making these things widely available and obtained the music illegally. I for one would have happily paid Underworld whatever they asked for new songs and remixes years ago when this stuff came out (and I will continue to hope to pay them whatever they want for new music going forwad), but they just wouldn't let me. Now, asking me to pay these prices and in these restricted formats for old music and dodgy remixes is disappointing. Let's not forget Nine Inch Nails launched a site where fans could download virtually every dodgy NIN remix for free. Thinking about just how old the RiverRun stuff is, I find myself wondering if this is what a record company's actually good for: getting the music out there, whether on iTunes or in shops or wherever; just AVAILABLE because people actually WANT to pay for it, and they want to pay for it NOW. Going forward, I hope we see the unreleased versions and true rarities others have mentioned offered in mp3, FLAC, Apple Lossless, and hopefully zipped for convenience's sake. |

Re: Underworldlive version 3.0 thread
I was just waiting for the initial rush and I'm going to go buy everything in the store. I know, I'm late. But looks like I can now get a bunch of stuff relatively cheap. Woot! Notice how I'm not complaining!

Re: Underworldlive version 3.0 thread
As someone who didn't get these the first time around, it's great to finally have these available to get. It's too bad at this point I already got them all on promo cd's and 12". I'll probably get the lossless versions here, but the collector in me won't want to sell of the hard-copies I have already acquired.
I agree it would have been spectacular if they would have released something new to start it off. My only other complaint is that they don't have the Riverruns and Lenny Penne available in high quality. The Riveruns would be big, but they could charge more as they did with the others. I'm also noticed that the Live Here Now CD store is listed as being "temporary" on the new shop homepage. While their CD's are nice, the slow turnaround time and zero communication is something I won't be missing. I hope UW takes over and through their site offers downloads, actual CD's, or both. Though I like having actual CD's if given the option. |

Re: Underworldlive version 3.0 thread
The Book of Jam 3 is now up in the members section. All the goodies from the Oblivion Ball. Just finished downloading it and I've only just breifly looked, but it seems pretty good.

Re: Underworldlive version 3.0 thread
I've just listened to the lossless Play Pig (Pig & Dan Mix 2) from the store when I noticed some typical MPEG artifacts... The pre-echo artifacts at 0:03 are quite obvious. I'd certainly expect to hear them on the MP3 version but not on the lossless one. It's the same on the promo CDs. Some of the remixes are affected, but the UW tracks seem fine.
I thought I'd check the spectrum of the tracks to confirm my suspicion (some examples): Play Pig (Pig & Dan Mix 3) JAL To Tokyo (Paul Woolford Dub) That looks like some MPEG compression to me. Maybe the iTunes MP3 encoder. It surprises me that those files are supposed to be the lossless masters. Has there been an encoding error or are these really the best versions available? Have these 'lossy' masters also been used for the vinyl version? Furthermore the 300x300 pixel artworks seem a little too small for PC viewing. I rather expected something like 300 dots per inch than 300 dots for the whole cover. Some words are barely decipherable.

Re: Underworldlive version 3.0 thread
You must have ears like a er...hawk. Mine must be clogged with wax. Why not get a stats list going where we can compare flaws with various formats! CD V MP3 v Viynl V Tape!
People on here never seem happy.
