Re: Grammys = crap
The Grammies have been crap for years, at least in the "pop" categories. Maybe things are better in the niche categories (latin, folk, classical, album notes?), but not necessarily (see: best dance: Justin Timberjoke. best electronic: Chemical Brothers worst album).
I think this was summed up in a classic Simpsons where Homer drops his award and some guy picks it up, only to toss it in the trash "oh, it's a Grammy." Yuck. In addition to the rewarding of talentless horse hockey, i find it troubling that the Grammies always toss in some washed up nostalgia name in a thinly-veiled effort to appear relevant and "reward" true musicians. Why are new albums from Springsteen, McCartney, Fogerty, Dylan always included when they can't hold a candle to their former glory days? Is current music all that bad or can no newbies write songs of the like of these oldies? No. Just good music often doesn't sell and the Grammies are nothing more than a popularity contest.
