Re: The Coup?
I borrowed "Genocide & Juice" from someone a few months ago, and wow, that record is on. Almost all of the mainstream hip-hop here in the states is really boring... nothing but hard bass and some minimal-house-like melody. The Coup, however, are just pure funky, and hilarious. The lyrics are well written, too. It's like a breath of fresh air, as far as hip-hop is concerned.

To be honest, I'm almost surprised I like them, becuase hip-hop is usually one of my least favorite genres of music.

Re: The Coup?
Im not a hip hop girl at all neither, i really have trouble processing hip hop. But I discovered some i really love like AIM and Prodigy and now this.. But this way better because they don't bling at all and their lyrics are more punk (i mean punk!). I love the "people is taking property out of big business this is a chaos. NO THAT IS PROGRESS"
!! Awsome.

Im listening to Kill my Landlord and Genocide & Juice.

get down.get down. get down !

Re: The Coup?
thanks for the recommendation GforGroove! This stuff really is great. Very FUNKY! It has a lot of similarities to the 70s funk and r&b guys. I just downloaded one called: "pick a bigger weapon" i think it is brand new, i'll keep my eyes open for the older ones you are talking about...

as an aside, if you are interested in hip hop like this i would reccomend the following: nujabes, cyne and blue scholars. they are all very jazzy & funky and interesting singing...
