I noticed in the Culture Show "Born Slippy" clip that Darren looked a bit serious. I recall Karl's u/wlive reports at the beginning of the eastern european tour of 2005 that Darren was very nervous re his first live gigs. Maybe his seriousness is a good contrast to Karl's buzzy upbeat-ness - juggling his water bottle while filming some random funfair stuffed toy, which was crowd-surfed onto the stage
