Re: Finally: Dirty Summer Compilation.
Class act guys. My personal faves would have to be "Cool Water Temple" and "Quelebric Hazel". Hopefully next year ill be worthy enough to have a song on there myself. But until then ill just listen to you guys doing it how it should be done.

Re: Finally: Dirty Summer Compilation.
Hi dirts,
I’m doing my NME bit here too. Great effort from everyone and a special well done to Leon for organizing the whole shebang. 1 : Polyester & Freshchuckdaily - Whatever You Do (Grandbrother Does Something Mix) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This mix in my opinion is way better than the original. The original is clichéd in places and the hip hop rap sound dated. This mix however creates a fresh feel with a capital cool. I wanna get on the floor and do something. Classy and already in my fav folder. 2 : Exile Cartel - A Year in the waiting ---------------------------------------- We go even more down tempo with this. The track builds then fades nicely. I really like the guitar sound (what is this?). 3 : The Wankfoot Soundsystem - Police & Theives ----------------------------------------------- Spliff up and sit on your porch (if you have one) then reggae it up. It starts of reggae – then gets more "Orb-ish" with the echoes and samples dropped later on. Strangely reminded me of Chief Wiggum singing “Jammin” (not in a bad way though ).4 : Sputnikk - Cool Water Temple -------------------------------- A layered lead arrives after the intro and guides us along into the tune, building slowly with confidence to help us arrive into a beautiful chilled out descent. I started whistling the lead in Tesco yesterday! 5 : Solar Polar - Aerobic Sensation ----------------------------------- shit 6 : Marshall Watson - An Evolution of sorts ------------------------------------------- The organ grinds, the arpeggiator bubbles with a beautiful echo, the minimal beats tease, the lead says nothing but manages to convey a retrospective melancholy which subsequently transforms into hope and beats. (NME muso writers - watch out!) 7 : The Virus - Kata (for human and drum computer) ---------------------------------------------------------- Keeping a bell like chime underbeat throughout, the track throws sounds at you from near and afar, layering and mixing blips, bleeps and drums in a style that I'm sure, edited, wouldn't have gone amiss on the late John Peel's evening shows. Praise indeed. More cowbell. 8 : A Gator Got Her - Quelebric Hazel ------------------------------------- This one fades in with clicks and bass... then fades up with an electro pop sound that stands up well on its own... I found myself singing words to it and you may too. With an added vocal this would be my stand out track on this compilation. 9 : Emmet - My Mission is This ------------------------------ DANCE NOW! Four to the floor with samples, tweaks and stabs to frenzy you up in an old skool style. Robots and samples aplenty then... Fuck me - there's singing too.. with a catchy lyric this really starts to rock. Cmon Now ![]() (I'd love to remix this) 10 : Sr Cranks - Sr Cranks Your Time is Now ------------------------------------------ Following on with more upbeat sounds, Sr Cranks introduces hard and tough sounding synths - screaming along with heavy drums that drop into a mix of sweet versus nasty. 11 : Avid - Glow in the Dark --------------------------- The start gives me a warm glow inside - a reminder of St Ettienne and The Smiths before then delving in and out of that sound using synth lines and stabs, topped of with cheery bleeps. Love it. 12 : PhaseBlue : HAL Test Msts Hi --------------------------------- Chillout with HAL samples and the music to-ing and fro-ing from spliff-tastic ambient to a quicker pace which may get you out your chair and hit the munchies. Lovely layers.

And the funny thing is, listening to the "electropop sound" over and over made me sing to it too and this song I originally wanted it to have lyrics. But I tried and I tried and it just didn't sound right. So I left them out. But now that you've mentioned it, I'm gonna try and do a version with vocals for this
