Re: Tricky - Bad Dream
yea - the version on DJ Kicks is "Aftermath (Version 1)"
which was on the sinlge, but not on the album. The album version is the "Hip Hop Blues" mix of Aftermath Bad Dreams is a pretty cool song, but I always kinda preferred this one live version... after the female vocals - Tricky comes out and sings some portions of the song again, and really starts yelling the "eddie spaggetti... any time you're ready" part have you ever heard the original version of "Bad Dreams"? If you didn't know - Tricky's song is a cover of a Chill Rob G song (who you might remember from the song "The Power" - think early 90's/late 80's house-rap) |

Re: Tricky - Bad Dream
If you're going to check it out, Leon, also check out Hell is Around the Corner (might be Hell is 'Round the Corner)...those two songs are masterpieces.

Re: Tricky - Bad Dream
i find that tricky is the sort of artist that, for every 1 unforgettable and great track he makes...he makes 3 that are so incredibly crappy, you promise youll never buy another of his albums.
...but then you end up buying his albums for the 4 amazing tracks on them. and the circle goes round and round. |

Sorry but blowback is fucking gash. There is about one maybe two reasonably good songs on there. One of which is Song for Yukiko which is nice and odd. There seems to be a distinct divide between older tricky fans who worship him for maxinquaye etc and the newer ones who got into him for blowback and vulnerable (both shit). Please dont be offended but those two albums are a pair of big smelly pants. I say it for your own good. Get maxinquaye and listen to it again and again, i never tire of this album, i notice something new every time and origianlly i didnt even like it at all but it grew and grew on me to a point where it single handedly completely changed my music taste and i now think the who album is near flawless. Best album ever made. Even better than Katamari! Eik, you're right, lots of crap stuff but i've come to accept that for the shear brilliance of the great stuff. He just needs to start smoking more weed and eating more wheat again. Oh and if u dont have it, get his Nearly God album (the french version if poss!) for some of his best and darkest stuff..... Poems, best song ever.

Sorry to shit on your personal taste and all, but that is 1 of his worst efforts aside from Yukiko. The dividing line on good Tricky and bad Tricky has only to do with one thing: Martina Topley Bird. OK, well it might also have to do with his recovery from candida, but let's go with Martina. Her voice is so amazing, and I think they have some of the best musical chemistry ever - proved by their reunion tracks on her solo album - just picking up right where they left off. After they stopped working together, he got much less interesting and the production so less adventurous. 2nd the motion on Poems. That is such an amazing track, and Martina's vocal crushes me. Video is great too with Terry Hall getting punched in the face over and over (easter egg on the DVD). So yeah, candida + weed + Martina + Tricky = brilliance. |
