Re: TOOL - Vicarious
There are a few tracks that continue to grow on me-- Vicarious and The Pot. But likewise, I feel this is Lateralus 2.

Undertow and Aenima were good albums. I practically liked all of Aenima. I feel that Lateralus and 10,000 Days were forced to be artsy and progressive. It's hard to explain.

Re: TOOL - Vicarious
See, but Lateralus for me is their best...so Lateralus 2 sounds great.

Re: TOOL - Vicarious
It's funny. Some of the tracks sound to my ears like they've either been listening to Rasputina or some of the same stuff that inspires Rasputina. Especially The Pot.

And I'm not alone. The coworker I'm stealing it from at this moment agrees with me.

Re: TOOL - Vicarious
It doesn't sound like Lateralus 2 at all. Lateralus was way more arty and progressive while 10,000 days sounds heavier, more metal-ish. Maynard's lyrics are worse, as does the overall quality of the album. But this is not bad because Aenima and Lateralus sound to me like the work of 4 individuals giving 120% of their creative skills, while 10,000 Days sounds like 95%, if you get my point. Still Awesome. Rosetta Stoned and The Pot are already classics.

Re: TOOL - Vicarious
I can't believe how much the photos of the band in the liner has damaged my mental image of them as people I (had) admired....? Are they taking themselves seriously? That shit with the bird?

I hate that fucking photo. I can't stop thinking about how lame that is and it's completely distracted me from the music.

Re: TOOL - Vicarious
see, I like the photos and the graphics as a conceptual whole. TOOL have always been about the occult, mysticism, psychology, and physiology, and I think that the packaging blows virtually anything else from any genre out of the water. It takes me back to the wonder of buying RUSH albums that had the lyrics and graphics in the fold out cover.

Hey, I like the clean minimalist packaging of Basic Channel, the Fabric series, etc., but TOOL are prog metal man!!!

The more spins I give the album the better it gets...possibly the result of the recent live performance/visuals being forever burned into my psyche...

Re: TOOL - Vicarious
okay...i'm over it

this album is fucking brilliant

wings for marie/10,000 days is amazing

least poppy --- they've just becoming increasingly less poppy with each album after aenima ... fine by me

Re: TOOL - Vicarious
that is such a beautiful tribute to his mother

if anyone didn't know, 10,000 days is a reference of the time from Maynard's mother's paralysis to her death

“10,000 days in the fire is long enough, you’re going home…”
