Interview on dutch radio
There was an interview with Karl on dutch Radio 3FM.
Real audio archived stream here
It's 1 hour 50 minutes into the stream. *warning, the english of the interviewer isn't the best I eve did hear a dutchy speak*

There should be a mp3 of it on this site, although that only lasts 15 seconds. I'll mail the site if they could correct it.

Re: Interview on dutch radio
nice interview
Yeah the interviewers' english isn't very good but Karl seemed to be in very good humour (isn't he always?).
It seems they definitely plan on releasing more than just an album this time around. "are you planning on releasing EP's or an album?" "...errrr...all of the above"

Damn, I can't listen to mp3 or any soundfile on my work. Care to give a summary someone?

EDIT: never mind. I've read it already.

The interviewer's English is a damn sight better than my Dutch! I am always astounded and ashamed when I go to Holland at the number of people who speak almost perfect English there.

Great interview - Karl is on fine fettle - can't wait!

Re: Interview on dutch radio
I might have been a bit hard on her english now I hear it back. Doing a ton of things at the same time as always while listening to it, I thought she was trying to ask different things then the words ment that came out of her mouth

Karl: Hi, hello, this is Karl from Underworld

Radio: We haven’t heard from UW in like two years, after the Anthology came out.

Karl: Yeah, we thought… we thought we’d give you a bit of a rest. (Laughing)

Radio: Did we need one? No, we didn’t really need a rest! No, but what’s been… what’s been up in the last two years?

Karl: Well.. well you know we toured for two years in 2002 and 2003, and then Rick and I started writing on the road in 2003 and compiling a lot of material really. I think more than we’ve ever…we’ve ever had in our back pocket really ready for any new releases. And then we… we began doing webcasting, live from the studio, which we enjoyed a lot, set up the book publishing company, UW print, to release the last book, In The Belly of St. Paul, and we’re working on a new book, to come out next year. But we’ve taken on a film score as well. So we’re working on a new film by Anthony Minghella, being shot here in London, with Jude Law and… er… Juliette Binoche, whilst trying to tour at the same time.. (laughing).

Radio: So it’s not been nice and quiet at all?

Karl: Hahah! (laughing lots)

Radio: Yeah you know we thought you guys were just relaxing a little bit and…er..

Karl: It’s been nice! It’s been nice, but it’s been… it’s been full, you know? It’s been really full…er…and …ah… at the same time, really getting ready to release new material, which it’s been our plan for the last two years, to release material this year.

Radio: If you say material, you’re talking about EPs or an album or… what can we expect?

Karl: Hmmmmmm. Hmmmm. All of the above (laughs).

Radio: I did hear a rumour though, that in 2003 a track was released which is called Always Loved a Film…

Karl: Always Loved a Film… (laughs)

Radio: And should be the title of a new CD coming out somewhere in 2005…

Karl: Oh really? Gosh, erm….

Radio: Really, that’s just a rumour?

Karl: No, I didn’t hear that, I didn’t hear that rumour. Always Loved a Film was a track we played at our last show in Tokyo. And in fact, I think we played a more progressed version of it … um… on the internet a couple of months ago. But also what we were doing was releasing unreleased music through the webcasting that was…er… work in progress.

Radio: You can listen to UW music and not see the visuals, but once you take it on the stage, it’s…it’s entire multi-media art installation kind of thing…

Karl: Yeah, yeah… it has worked that way in the past. And… and I know that Rick especially is inspired by the visual arts …um… and so the two for us have always gone together. Although the priority for us is the sound.

Radio: I have one more question, because you said you were rehearsing now for this summer, while you will be doing lots of festivals and some of your own shows.

Karl: Yeah

Radio: But, I thought that UW never really did rehearse, they just were sort of jamming on stage.

Karl: Yeah, we’re jamming, and we don’t have set lists, but we need to learn the material first before we can pull it to pieces. And we’re always building… developing parts of the live instrumentation, and so there is always new bits of equipment and things that are coming in, members of the team… Darren Price, for example... he’s joining us on stage for the first time on tour, so there will be three of us on stage again.

Radio: Just like old times.

Karl: Well, Darren is a completely different… erm… Darren Price is a completely different kind of person, you know, to anybody we’ve ever worked with before, and he’s a very chilled guy, very talented…

Radio: So that’s all exciting stuff then…er.. for this summer…

Karl: I think so, yeah! You know, we’re not getting much sleep…

Radio: Sunday the 17th July we’re going to see you guys, cos then you are in Holland and you’re doing a show at the 5 Days Off festival, which is an electronic festival…

Karl: Yeah, always great… always always always great to play in Holland

Radio: Yeah, we Dutchies, we are nice… we are a nice audience?

Karl: Er yeah, and you… and as they say in good old blighty, you’re mad for it…!
