Re: It's all back Pete Tong (new Underworld - Electronic Part One))
Dirts, should they keep the vocoder or not? I say they should keep it.
With Underworld songs I try to do two things: 1) Decipher lyrics 2) Understand lyrics I try to at least get to stage one with every uw song because naturally I want to sing along with Karl. I know ill never be able to get to stage one with this as it is now and that pains me but honestly I can't help but appriciate how nice it sounds with the vocoder. |

LOSE the vocoder.
Karls voice was one of the reasons why i love Underworld. yes...the other, is Ricks madass twiddling with things until you feel like your head comes clean off.

i still can't even believe there's a vocoder... it just seems so superfluous to mess with a good voice with something sounding so unecessary.
and the music is so good... maybe i should just go with it and see what happens. i dont think i've ever immediately liked anything by them |

Re: It's all back Pete Tong (new Underworld - Electronic Part One))
Keep the vocoder, dammit. It's awesome, it helps the vox become just another instrument, which to me is really fresh. THIS TRACK IS 25 MINUTES FUCKING LONG?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?
With all I've heard, I expect this album to hold its own. I expect it to be as good as STITI, and I really think that it will. All that I've heard that's new from the boys has had a ton of swagger to it. The beats are once again funky, and the music is just so incredibly edgy. BRING IT ON.

keep the vocoder. its a part of UW now. also, a 25 min track is gonna have to go through some transitions -- i imagine karls voice will make a cameo

Re: It's all back Pete Tong (new Underworld - Electronic Part One))
First thought: hey, the beat and rhythm sound pretty cool; wouldn't expect this out of R+K.
Second thought: what the hell? The vocoder is way over done, and I can't figure out what the hell Karl is saying in order to sing along/interpret the song. It's starting to sound like a mess. Third thought: the beat and nonstop vocals do seem to melt together, and on second listen it did sorta grow on me. Still, what the hell? I'm not excited by this piece, and if it goes on for 25 minutes, it better get extremely good at the end for this first part to work. Maybe this is work for the soundtrack? I don't know.

talk about ruining a track.........
![]() the vocoder is just godawful and uninpired...really doesn't do the lyrics (or Karl's voice) any justice and I'd agree that it makes the track *snooze* right on by.....so please kill the "Cher Machine". ![]()

it's like telling a painter to use different colours/use more/less paint/other brushes/no brushes at all etc etc etc; who do you think you are telling UW how to make their music?
