Underworld Spotting [Again]

So for decades I strongly suspected that one of my favorite anime series, Last Exile, was inspired by Underworld in creating the opening theme. But I didn't really know anyone who was into both anime and Underworld that I could talk to about it. And I definitely never found any comments online about other people confirming it over the years.

Finally, a few weeks ago I directly emailed the artist, Shuntaro Okino, to ask, out of curiosity. I didn't expect a response and forgot about it. Today when I checked my email I got a reply!
