Re: Dirty compilation 2009
Would anybody freak out if i played a few of the tracks on my radio show tonight? Thinking of doing a mix, would be nice to throw in a few of the new tracks and build some interest...

...any objections?

If i hear anything between now and 7pm GMT I will pull the idea but otherwise you will hear some of the tunes tonight, live on dirtyradio.org at 7pm GMT until 8pm ...

I'm now listening to the tracks.

What tracks did you play on Dirty Radio, Dunwho?

Holden or Mike, would you mind to change the title of 'I need you premaster' into 'I need you'?

I'll host them as well on www.tfhats.com

Hey man, i played four tracks... Elevator, Travelling at Night, Ice Melt and another which i cant quite remember... but I will have a Podcast up by wednesday id say, so you cn give it a listen. I mixed the whole show live so there are some interesting mixes going on for one or two of those tracks - i think its always interesting to hear how your own music relates to others in a live mix... how they bond, or if they bond at all... think there was a nice flow between Carbon by Monolake and LX NEN's Ice Melt... Im going to try and get another show in before the end of the year... maybe two. and I will see if i can get a few more of the tunes on.

So far its the Elevator tune that is really standing out for me, it has a cool progression that takes you by surprise everytime..

Re: Dirty compilation 2009
Awesome, thanks a ton for the spin Dunwho. My thoughts at this point are that, this thing has turned out so good that we should really consider figuring out how we can get netradio stations and other common interest sources to pick this thing up and spread it around. Serious kudos to you all.

And my thoughts on the tracks:

Thirst

I love the piano in this track, and I'm thinking that either this was a live recording which if so it was played wonderfully, or if it was sequenced it was done with great care, for it feels loose and organic. The straight drum accompaniment is simple, but to go overboard would've taken attention away from the piano, which would've been a detriment. I imagine this playing on the stereo of a car travelling down a windy country road, which is basically a fancy way of saying that it sounds like a soundtrack for something peaceful. Which is cool.

Elevators

My first reaction to this song was that it reminded me a bit of something Seefeel would've done, with the synth line in it. Of course, this song has actually very little to do with Seefeel, and I'm having a hard time placing any direct influence to it. Considering that this song is so kick-ass, that's a very good thing because after all, it's hard to find something that's kick-ass AND original these days.

Traveling At Night

So yea, this is my song and yes, apparently Traveling only has one L in it. Instead of review my track, just a bit of insight into it... I recorded my Takamine acoustic and vocals with a Rode K2 mic, and I used an electric bass and put a synth bass under it. The synth in the verse that shifts and gurgles is called Icepad, and the pad in the chorus was done with Super Equinoxe Deluxe, both of which are synths in the Native Instruments user library for use with Reaktor 5. This was all sequenced and mixed in Ableton Live 7, and final treatment was done with Izotope Ozone 4, which has been wonderful for me thus far. I wrote this song during a difficult time in my life and I was so stuck in the moment that closing out the track with a fade just felt appropriate. I'd also tried some drum fills, bridges and other things but in the end keeping it simple just felt the most natural to me. Happily life is much better these days, I got a nice song out of the deal as a bonus and I'm happy to be able to share it with you guys.

I Need You

There's some quality synth work in this track -- I love how the synths morph and really recognize the care and effort put into the arrangement. This track is a lot of fun, and would probably sound nice on a huge system. To the composer -- have you had a chance to play this out live on a PA? What was the response like?

And I'm going to stop here for now as I have things to tend to. I'll be back in a few days to finish my review!
