Re: UP
Yeah, Cars is probably the weakest Pixar flick by a long way.

Haven't seen Up yet but it seems like it's going to be great.

Wall-E, both Toy Stories, Monsters Inc & Ratatouille are all awesome and virtually perfect films.

I didn't even know they were making Cars 2 (and couldn't care less probably) but Toy Story 3 and Monsters Inc 2 have me so excited I could shit

Re: UP
Just saw this on a plane. I agree with the above comments about the villian subplot being a bit weak, and the fact that the ol' guy is running and jumping, not to mention dragging a floating house around, clashing with his crotchety characteristics at the start of the film. But hey - a balloon-lifted house? Suspension of reality!

Also, i was very impressed by how "adult" some of the subject matter was - more so than in other Pixar films i recall. I don't want to spoil it for those that haven't seen it, but there are a few weighty issues hinted at, that certainly moved me.
But still, plenty cute and comical!

Re: UP
I'm a big fan of the Presto, which was played before WALL-E:

nemo was pretty average..

the only thing that saved it for me, was it
was about a father and son..

and since i don't get along with my father,
that made me sad (and kind of mad too!)..

be seeing you

[quote=the mongoose;111547]Yet another great masterpiece from Pixar. Very emotional journey that has plenty of laughs (Kevin the snipe and Doug the talking dog especially) and enough going on visually to keep the kids entertained. The story pulls no punches and will have you on a roller coaster of emotions.

Totally agree.....this was one of the best cartoon movies in a long time.

Re: UP
here's some good discussions about bad messages from movies:
http://www.wired.com/geekdad/2009/11...ge-4/#comments

9. No matter how appallingly bad conditions on Earth get, so long as there is one tiny plant on the planet, it can still be restored to its former beauty and sustainability (from WALL-E). In WALL-E, Earth is depicted as essentially one big desolate, deteriorated waste dump. Then WALL-E finds one tiny little green plant, and that is evidently enough to constitute proof that the planet can be reclaimed. That’s one small plant in the midst of millions of square miles of garbage and lifeless expanse. It kind of flies in the face of the desired message behind the film to imply that, no matter how badly we screw things up, one dinky little leafy green thing will constitute hope for all of humanity.
