Cairo speech
Any thoughts?

I was - mostly - very impressed.

Around the world, he will have generated an awful lot of good will (along with the inevitable bad will) with that speech.

I'm inclined to agree with the Times: he must have said something right if Osama bin Laden, Ayatollah Khamenei of Iran and the Jewish settlers on the West Bank all lined up to denounce it.

Intelligent. Passionate. Humble. Respectful.

Just right, and such a breath of fresh air.

Re: Cairo speech
I'm really glad he's my president. He took on a host of issues head-on and walked a dangerous line very well.

The line the US is taking to Israel, in regards to the stopping of settlements, is probably just as important as anything said in the speech because, as it stands, it is a policy at work.

As has been said and will be said, we'll see what this is followed up by. It was a strong rallying call for those who want opportunity to seek it out with the US. Now, though, will any leaders take the bait? Or will those in power try to gain fame by arm-wrestling with the popular leader on issues in the region?
