Karl's Diary on Homepage
Must say that I'm finding Karl's Diary very interesting, especially the 15th December entry. Now, I know where each of those pictures were taken (except for the ones of the overheads of course). It doesn't place Karl where I thought he'd be and I am intrigued. I am amazed that I instantly recognised the houses and the flats along the line. It shows that my brain has taken in every single detail of the journey which I have more or less done every weekday for 13 years. I don't know how much I should give away but the first I believe is just outside the station after you've passed over the river, the second is the flats on the right hand side at London Fields and the third is the flats on the right just before the train turns right into Bethnal Green.

Maybe one day I will see Mr Hyde on the train - it would be an honour indeed. As Shaw Taylor would say, 'Keep 'em Peeled'

Re: Karl's Diary on Homepage
I always thought they would use the GE mainline for Romford rather than Chingford or Tottenham Hale into London. Depending where they live in Essex i guess, whatever is easiest at the time.
I dont miss that line at all having worked it. Plagued with Chavs over there and Vandalism is rife. I used to dread working the Turkey Street school run. The little darlings would open the doors and pull the Communication chords. It was bad enough to going to Enfield anytime of the day. Now i work a route cross country and have a Guard. Every train should have Guards! rant over.....

Re: Karl's Diary on Homepage
We know that the band used to record in Romford, and that the new studio is an ex pig-farm in Essex. Given that Hollywoods in Romford has closed, I can't think of anywhere on route to Shenfield/Southend Vic that would count as a pig farm, so it's reasonable to assume they moved into the nicer bit of essex where successful drug barons go to retire, rather than sticking in the part where councils are considering reducing street lighting on the grounds that the roads are already well illuminated by burning cars.

Made me LOL. Just got back from Havering Magistrates Court meself, funnily enough. The "Liberty" shopping centre is a disgrace, but the new Mall doesn't look too rough. And that little stretch of road up through Gidea Park is fairly reasonable. Not a burning car to be seen, but it is still early in the day yet!
(Glad I don't live there, though - and sorry to Rick and Karl, I know we got told off in the chatroom once for dissing Romford but... well. It isn't the most beautiful place in the known universe, is it?)

Re: Karl's Diary on Homepage
stiff records did a tour of the uk on a private hire train in the 70's

Stiff revived an idea from the US 60s pop factory Motown – the label tour. The tour bus, or for second tour, the ludicrously over the top and expensive tour train, rolled into university towns across the UK, with an anarchic and chaotic live show featuring a revolving line-up of acts from the labels roster. All the participants were paid a flat fee of £50 a night, and, the personnel were flexible, with Dury drumming for Eric, saxophonist Davey Payne playing for both of them and the whole ensemble getting on stage for a rousing chorus of Sex and Drugs and Rock 'n' Roll to end the night.
