Re: The Avalanches are (kinda) back
I really like that remix of A Different Feeling.

Also I like Random in that one mix because it totally describes the Avalanches sound.

Australian sample-meisters The Avalanches will finish their new album by Christmas - eight years after their acclaimed debut 'Since I Left You'.

Re: The Avalanches are (kinda) back
So I bought Girl Talk's "Feed the Animals" after hearing about how awesome it is. After listening to it, I thought, "Wasn't this done 10 years ago?" Mash-ups and all that have been going on for some time. It's been a long time since I've listened to Gimix or Breezeblock or the Avalanches in general, but I remember it being better. Girl Talk is quality stuff, but it's just a rock/pop song + rap vocals for 20 second bits over and over. Yeah it's a lot of songs and it sounds great, but I wish the songs and samples would be longer and have more chance to develop, rather than just 4-measure-long namechecks. But it's interesting how things have changed and how the higher-profile release of Girl Talk drew a lot of attention. I don't think the Avalanches had that option way back when, and well, it seems like they missed their chance.

Re: The Avalanches are (kinda) back
Does someone know Wax Tailor's "Tales Of The Forgotten Melodies"? Someone suggested it to me once, saying it's the better version of The Avalanches. Then I heard it, and the music itself isn't that bad, but all I could think is that it's really just an Avalanches rip off kinda.
