The Avalanches are (kinda) back

I know there's a lot of love for Since I Left You on this forum (in fact the dirty forums are where I first heard about it, quite a number of years ago now..), so I figure some dirties would be interested in knowing this.

There's been a lot of activity over at The Avalanches official site so far this year. The guys are gradually working to put all their previous mixes, as well as a few new things, online in anticipation of their next album.

Incidentally, this post on their forums gives a hint of what to expect:

Quote:

its a really thrilling time for us right now as this record comes together, its so fuckin party you will die, much more hip hop than you might expect, and while there is still no accurate estimated time of arrival, were sure you're gonna love it when it arrives.

much of last year was spent cutting up the spoken word/instructional records we need to tell the albums musical story, and we have some 40 odd songs we're narrowing down and finishing. so its real, it exists, and you know we wouldn't be serving anything up unless it was gonna give you that same special feeling that since has. funnily enough its ended up sounding like the next logical step to since, we just had to go around in a big circle to get back to where we belong.
If you register on their website, you find the following free goodies already up for grabs:
  • Ray of Zdarlight - Described on the site as "Wham vs Digitalism", this is one of the funnest tracks I've heard all year. Really awesome.
  • Some People - A 45 minute mix in the style of their old Gimix and Breezeblock sets. This is GREAT stuff and anyone who liked Gimix will definitely get into it. Highly recommended.
  • Brainz Edit - A 23-minute long edit of a longer mix that's yet to surface, this is another of their more recent mixes. Like Some People, it has a very Avalanches sound to it, which is only a good thing.

It looks like there's lots more to come, including Gimix and their old Breezeblock sets, which will finally get a permanent and deserved home by the looks of things.

Enjoy and share the avalanches love. :)

I'm interested in how their sound will be like. I'd say it's really REALLY hard to top their first album. We'll see. I like the "more hiphop than you'd expect" thing.

Since I Left You... Hmmm.

I don't believe Dexter is involved at all. I was so sad when I heard he had split.

Dexter's truancy problem is way out of hand

It's the opinion of the entire staff that Dexter is criminally insane

I thought Dexter officially left the band some time ago...

like I want to say he left aroudn the time of / before the Chemical Brothers' track "Dexter's International Scribble Mix" (or it was titled something like that, it was on either the "Golden Path" or "Get Yourself High" dvd single)
