555...
as you should all know by now - in all movies (& US TV shows) the telephone number is always 555 something...well
i thought i'd start a thread for spotting these unique movie phone numbers: Movie: Back to the Future Number: 555 4823 Where spotted or heard : Jennifer, Marty's girlfriend, scribbles it on the back of the save the clocktower flyer, its her home phone number. so you know the drill - if you hear or see in any movie or TV show a phone number with the '555' prefix come back here and post it... (don't just trawl to some geeky movie site and post loads at once - i could do that...its more fun coming across them when you do and posting them as and when...unless you remember some off the top of your heads ;) ) hopefully we can have a complete phone book of hollywood with 9999 numbers in it... happy dialing :) Mattval1 |
Re: 555...
You do know that 555 numbers always go to local information in the states, right?

Re: 555...
Movie: Hackers
Number: 555 4202 Where spotted or heard : Phreak in jail, calls the operator when the cop isn't looking and asks the operator to call this number. |

Re: 555...
Just 555 does it, like 911 goes to emergency.

Re: 555...
555-1212 for any area code :D

Re: 555...
all movie and tv numbers in the us are started with the 555 prefix - so you don't get stalkers and weirdoid geeky types calling up numbers they see in movies and bothering those who answer.
Best use of the 555 is in "Last Action Hero" - when the kid's trying to convince Arnie that he's a movie character - and says something like "Well, how come all the number start with 555, you'd run out of numbers." Arnie's reply: "That's why we have area codes..." Not quite as memorable as "I'll be back." - but it wasn't exactly a memorable film. And I've probably totally misquoted it, as i've not bothered to google for the exact script. :) |

Best line in the movie however is when Arnie gives it ".. just drive around the neighbourhood and point your finger at the house and say the bad guys are in there!" :D |

has an INSANELY comprehensive (which is par for the course for the internet, innit?) list of these numbers. |
Re: 555...
yeah i would think it would make a better little game to list out all the non-555 numbers used in movies... like Magnolia, Bruce Almighty, etc.

Re: 555...
I just want to say that Last Action Hero is one of the best genre parodies ever made, if not THE best. Getting Arnold to star in that movie was a major coup for comedy. It lent the whole thing kind of a straight-faced quality that just made it that much better.
Speaking of the governor of my great state, the one 555 number I'll never forget is in The Terminator, because the second half of it (9175) is the same as my dad's phone number, and I was at my dad's house the first time I saw it. It boggled my young mind, at the time. |
