Re: Coldplay

I typically set aside my personal feelings about an artist and focus on what they've created to decide whether or not I like them. But for some reason, Chris Martin's ass-face just annoys the crap out of me and I can't seem to get interested in their music at all. But I guess that might also mean that I never felt like their music was good enough to outweigh the fact that he's an intolerably irritating douche-bag.

That being said, I do actually like the song "Spies" off of Parachutes. :D

For the record, I loved Parachutes but dislike all the rest that they have put out up until now. This new album is /okay/ but one listen was enough.

you have to be joking.

I don't think Coldplay's guitarist sounds anything like Edge...

Yeah, he's better than the Edge!:p
Seriously, the Edge has made a career out of the 4 note riff. Catchy, yes, but brilliant? Nope. An effects processor and a plucked scale and you've got it covered.

(probably should steer clear of the U2 comparisons before this turns into another "Bono = c*ck" thread!)

Re: Coldplay

musically i've never liked the Coldplay sound, and as such have been on a vengeful hatefilled despising of them ever since that yellow fucking song - and the whole - 'we are better than you' attitude which has partly been overblown by the press doesn't help...

why do bands have to try and get 'bigger' than they need...

i can appreciate that they make nice tunes that people (mainly mums and dads) like, lets leave it at that - they are good musicians who make music i don't partiularly like, that said, i've not liked anything U2 have done since zooropa...

i'm never gonna be converted to Coldplay - thats not to say the should give up making music that other people like... as long as its not on the radio every fucking 5 minutes....

Re: Coldplay

well.... to me, their (Coldplay's) recent album is actually pretty good.

I say this b/c there's not as much as an emphasis on piano as on their previous efforts... not that I don't like the piano, I just think that they have the habit of overuse

also - b/c you can't deny that Brian Eno did a TON of work on the album. It has a definite "Zooropa" / second half of "Achtung Baby" vibe

it actually reaffirmed my confidence in Brian's work, as I really really really was disappointed in how he produced U2's "All That You Can't Leave Behind" ... and although I don't think he did "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb" - I do remember that he worked on the track "Peace or Else" (or something to that effect) which basically sounded like a Depeche Mode ripoff

and btw - Achtung Baby -> Pop (including Passengers) were all great albums

I just think that the singles off of Achtung suffer from over-exposure (save 'the Fly' & 'Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses')... if you strip the album of those singles - it's still really solid.

nope, dead serious. Viva La Vida (heard only from the iTunes commercial and having no idea there was a new Coldplay album coming out) sounded, to me, a LOT like Bono singing. It sounds EXACTLY like a new-era U2 song. I hear a lot of similarities to "Beautiful Day" in this song. I'm not saying it ripped it off, but I am saying that if this song was on the next U2 album I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised.

The other thread almost turn me on coldplay . I mean i was ready to listen to them . I'm glad I hav'nt

:D

I guess "ass-face" would just be an insult that implies that I find even the sight of his face offensive. Although now that I think about it, that would be an insult to some fine asses that are out there in the world....:D
