Just received a package from Underworld! A handwritten note (from Danielle I presume) said that 50 Underworldlive.com customers were selected at random for an early Xmas gift from the band. They sent me a YR A BTIFL THNG tote bag and MNR MNR MNR t-shirt all the way here in Los Angeles. They arrived on my girlfriend's birthday, which is an amazing coincidence because they'd actually wished her a happy birthday on their December broadcast a few years ago, and I'm passing the merch on to her. I love this band!

i recently looked online for a copy of the CD of dark and long— i was looking for the two versions, the four track one with most 'ospitable and 215 miles, and the one with 6 tracks that has thing in a book, spoon deep, etc.

these were somewhat common a few years ago. what the heck happened? i only found 2 copies and they don't give the track listing... so i don't even know what i'm buying.

the thing is, i wanted these in lossless because i'm rebuilding my music library in lossless, so i don't want to purchase mp3s. does anyone know where i can get these two CDs for a decent price?

Found a copy of Tonto's Drum today that had a giant Second Toughest bumper sticker in it. The sticker is about 13" long and 4" tall. Says 'underworld' on the top and 'second toughest in the infants' on the bottom. Background is blue and silver artwork from the album. Pretty sweet score for $4.

So my S.O. came home today saying that they went to the local used book store, but that I couldn't get mad and proceeded to pull out of their bag a VG++ vinyl of Underneath the Radar! The record itself is IMMACULATE, the outer sleeve has VERY slight corner damage and the store put a price sticker on it, and the inner sleeve has slight tearing from the record edges. That's very true. I do that, if I have an mp3 or a flac recording of the item in question. In most cases, I don't necessarily need (or even want) the actual physical item, but having the music itself is enough for me.

there are digital versions for some of the releases if they were official.

it throws off other people, when they are trying to ascertain who

This original acetate was made exclusively for Darren Emerson for the cream separates CD. It is possible that two copies were made, but believe the person I bought it off originally said Darren gave his copy to him. Either way I suspect that Mark74 is Mark3 on here?

There was one promo for Episode 1 (https://www.discogs.com/Underworld-Drift-Episode-1-Resolve/release/13306107), but none that I've seen since then.

I imagine there will be some promos when the album comes out, but I'm not sure if they're going to do the traditional Single promotion for it, since they already kind of distributed the singles when they came out over the past year (e.g. "Listen to Their No" has already gotten a lot of rotation on the BBC). And also, they might go straight into the start of Series 2 next year.

Yeah, probably too much, I think. But, there were only 100 made, and the seller's right, I've never really seen a sealed one on the secondary market. There have been zero sold on Discogs. So, if someone really wants one, they have to consider how much they want to pay when the opportunity arises. £200-300 might not be unreasonable.

Sadly it’s far from mint. This was kicking around for twenty years unprotected. Sometimes with push pin holes, some water damage, even tears. They did a good job with it to make it look this nice.

So, I picked up this Dinosaur Adventure 3D promo last week:

And I inadvertently discovered that there are a couple of unique edits on there.

First, really minor, but the Radio Edit is slightly longer in that the final cymbal hit at the end of the song plays to completion. It looks like on all other releases that there is a fast, early fade on the cymbal hit.

More significantly, this release has a different edit of Rick's Club Mix. Even though it's very similar in length, it's kind of like the difference between the two Peach Tree edits: elements are re-arranged and coming in and out at different times. I haven't finished a complete A-B comparison yet, but it first diverges at the 1:40 mark when the descending doot-doot-doot line comes in much earlier than it does on the retail version.

Based on the runtimes given on all the DA3D releases, I think this edit might be unique to this release. And this is just my gut feeling, but I think this might be an earlier edit, and the one on the retail releases is the final edit. It just seems like the edit choices and sound are more refined on the retail version, the way we know Rick likes to iterate the songs.

is there a difference between pressings from the UK and the US.

i've been waiting a year or two to catch up on a lot of vinyl boxsets,
and i'm getting them for 20-50% of their original cost. same with albums.
i've never pre-ordered, and i just wait for used or lightly used copies to show up.



The nature of vinyl pressing means even pressings from the same plant can differ wildly, some labels will prefer to use Optimal, or MPO, or GZ in Europe, but there's others too. Some will swear by one or the other, but in my experience there's no reall noticeable difference between them (appreciate that contradicts my first statement somewhat).

A lot of it comes down to the mastering or cut which can have a huge impact on the final press.

Most of the cost in a box set will be in it's packaging - not everything goes up in value on the second hand market and sellers will sometimes have a surplus of titles (especially box sets which can take up a lot of space) they prefer to move on at nearer cost price rather than waiting for it to sell at full price. i've noticed with cd boxsets, most have stayed flat with their prices, compared to their original prices. now granted, i don't have the 'barbara barbara' one, which i will be getting. but i'm ok with whatever price its going for, because it was more limited.

Yes, well, it spiked for a while when it sold out in the distribution channel just a month or two after release, and there was no indication of any more physical product coming. Prices cratered after the affordable Complete box set was announced.

I have the DVD case promo (somewhere) which had a lot of alternative artwork not in the official release. Some of the b sides released could also go there. The last proper album where b sides were a thing.

Karl did mention the fact that a second Drift boxset might get in the way of the AHDO box, so it's definitely still on the radar. Probably be next year for the 20th anniversary, although I can't help thinking the pandemic would be a great time to go through the archives and put together a really good boxset.

Bootleg Babies was such a quality production, I can see why it'd be a sought after collectible. But it's lame that someone is trying to profit from it.
Boots have been traded and sold forever, and I guess no one but the original artist has the rights to the music. Traders etiquette suggests you don't sell and many artists are cool with the hardcore fans trading. But this one, bootleg Babies, was more of a fair use recreation of a gig. Lots of effort and expertise. I guess if anything is on the internet, it's impossible to preserve intellectual property or control distribution.

Around 2001 when I found this forum (well, the old version) and was really discovering the band, I downloaded all the fan remixes and burnt them to CDR. Can't say it was a great hi fi listening experience. Now they're on vinyl, so the pops and clicks accentuate the low bitrate glitches! My own AVID remixes from that time, using freeware and dubious techniques have appeared....cool to say they're on vinyl, but again, who would pay for this? I guess if you were just discovering the band like I did 20 years ago, you'd be excited to hear something rare and you wouldn't know their free origins. 5 seconds on Google should tell you something about the obscurity of those remixers!

Do you mean it came with a 12"? Or that that's the version of Push Upstairs on the CD? If it's the latter, then that's not unique. That version of the track is what appears on every version of 1992-2002.
