yeah, i got a pair of those dog-tags recently from ebay... i remember seeing them on sale years back and was kicking myself for not buying them back in 1995 and 1996. i especially remember seeing them in the Birmingham Que Club in March 96 along with the Kiteless video and the Skyscraper book. Instead, i bought a cream long sleeve UW shirt... hmm. Did i make the right decision? at least i have the dog tags now...

Yeah, that was previously described on Dirty 2.0 as "the drunk Daz mix". Kinda like "record stops, needle lifts, second record starts" ;) Still damn good, though!

For the real remix experience, i suggest Negative1's "We all went mental and danced" project...a 2 cd continuous mix of almost all of UW's remixes, seamless! It's still on the horde, i think, and it's fine work.

Hey, in terms of collectibles, did Underworld ever give away anything at particular concerts, like sampler mix cds or tees, etc?

There are completists, and then there are Completists! :p

i really love making/buying/downloading/listening to music...it's a huge part of my life, and my CD collection is pretty big. But sometimes i have to ask, when am i gonna listen to all this? And who cares if i have every track a certain artist ever made? Like so many collectibles and compulsions, it's the search that's more important than the item itself, and once you have it, one becomes quickly dissatisfied and wants more. i'll have to re-read that book, "How to want what you already have" ;)

Show Some Emotion... One of my favourites. Shock The Doctor? I don't believe I've ever heard that one before. Just when I thought I've heard every UW song something always comes up. I have the CD Single, but it only has the Album version and an Edit (not really different from the original, but the intro is little longer I believe - I'll have to give it another listen.), but no B-Side. Any chance you've ripped this track? I'd really love to add it to my digital collection as that's what most of my UW collection is. I don't really have any rare things - aside from the Singles and Albums, alls I got is the 100 Days Off CD Sampler - pretty cool - but it's just an EP with like 6 tracks from the full album. On 2 trips to Santa Barbara - they've got a Music store in the downtown strip - I've come across a gem each time - happy - last July I came across the Dark & Long CD single and then in December I came across the Show Some Emotion CD Single - can't wait till my next trip - maybe I'll find something to add to my small CD collection.

Cheers,

it's the search that's more important than the item itself, and once you have it, one becomes quickly dissatisfied and wants more

It's like a drug addiction... I remember before I got married when I had much much more time on my hands making trips to the record stores searching for certain items... those were the days before the internet took the fun away... however, I've found items that had been really hard to find, so it's bittersweet...

There's alot of UW stuff I don't have... hmmm, darn you 15min version of Leutin you're going to get me in trouble....

Now Playing:
"Underworld - Live In Cologne '99 - Dark Train"

... later this afternoon after having a nice lunch....

eBay sure has a ton of UW stuff - 7 pages worth. A lot of it was just the usual singles and all the albums - but I came across some nice things... I think I'm going to have to scan my music collection, get a box, rip some tracks, back up some discs, buy some cases (as I've thrown all mine out thanks to caselogic), and make a trip to Amoeba. I'm going to have to be able to cover my CC bill that the wife will surely stumble upon... thank all you who purchase used CD's... Help support the music junkie - his drug hurts nobody.

Now Playing:
"UW - Live In Cologne '99 - Jumbo" - Love this live version!

... sorry to make this so long - but it's been the last post on this thread and things just keep happing to me...

What's added in the extra few minutes of Luetin? Something new and different, or an extended fade in/out? As with the 9:00 "Jumbo", i can't get too excited with extended fades. But when there are new bits (as with "Push Upstairs" and "Nuxx" on 1992-2002), it's so cool!

Ah, the "Moaner" single! Worth it for the Relentless Legs mix:) (though i always hide the jewel case when i play it...don't want anyone to see Batman and Robin on my desk!)

Which version of 92-02 might you be speaking of? I've got the US release and us usual with US releases - No extras included. I'm hunting down the Japanese import... I've got to find it soon before the wife closes my cc account. That would be tragic...

Now as for Luetin - I'm sure over 8min of extra track time would allot for something different than the original track. Even if it's just 8 more minutes of music - it would be worth it for me to get it. Someone please let me know where I can find this... please!

Which version of 92-02 might you be speaking of? I've got the US release and us usual with US releases - No extras included.

i also have the US release...there are differences, sort of subtle, with some track lengths versus the LP editions. But the biggest differences that stand out for me are on "Push Upstairs" and "Born Slippy Nuxx"

The LP version of "Push" is ~4:30. The Anthology version is 6 min. and change. The latter has some extended "Aughh"-ing by Karl and some persistent drum claps. It's overall harder sounding.

I dunno the length of the Anthology "Nuxx", but suffice it to say that the unaccompanied drums at the end are different than the other mixes, including some stops that will def. catch your attention, esp. after hearing the original so much! The Anthology, i think, also cuts out the bleepy synth that appears in the 11:35 Trainspotting version.

The old forum had a thread about the differences on the Anthology. There are probably others, but like i say, most are just longer fades (e.g. "Moaner" does it's triangle and synthbass warble for a longer time).

I got the Australian DoublePlays STITI & BF CD set today...

2 x cd's which basically are

the Australian V2 version of STITI (marketed and distributed by festival Mushroom Records) cat number 337242

&

the Australian V2 version of BF (marketed and distributed by festival Mushroom Records) cat number 337202

the slip case has the mis-labeled Track 4: 'Medley: STITI' (which is just banstyle/sappys curry)

the two CD's come in a slip case with the cat number: 338862

it looks like an official V2 'bundle' - although the scanned image of the STITI album on the box is pretty poor quality, but all the label and copywrite info looks ok on the sleeves and discs...
i think this is a genuine re-packaged bundle set - well worth getting cheap if you can... (if you don't already have it)

there are NO NEW TRACKS or EXCLUSIVES on these CD's ;)

Yeah, it's great. The guy even has AHDO listed as Two Weeks Off - LOL.
But the ID tags on the tracks are all correct. He obviously rushed in creating his label. There's 91 tracks total from Underneath The Radar to A Hundred Days Off + some tracks from the Born Slippy and Pearl's Girl singles and The Back To Mine compilation which I never even bothered purchasing... because it's not UW.

On a PC it launches a player with same picture on the cover of the disc and you can select the album. Most of the tracks were ripped at 160kbps but for dubno and STITI they were ripped at 128kpbs.

My question is how in the world was he able to get it professionally pressed, other than knowing someone who did it for him. It looks official, with the exception of the typos...

i know most would rather not know. obviously far less than what i paid. unfortunately i wasn't keen to the band when this single came out. i probably could have gotten it on an import for roughly under $20 US. as it is - i paid about $130 US for this single and when i receive it i'm going to listen to it and then it will probably sit in my UW cd binder with an occasional hear and i'll often reflect on the large sum of funds i spent on this single and how much (roughly about 40 CD's i had to sell to compensate for it) and i'll smile...

The girl selling it seems to be a pretty cool person. She told me about that mix tape before she listed it - actually she would have sold it to me if I was interested. seemed pretty cool, however, it was made for her and not me... so... it's kind of like getting something signed and just knowing that you didn't hand it to them to sign. She's been selling a ton of UW stuff on eBay these past few weeks. I'm waiting for the Quasar 12" and the Underneath the Radar 12" from her... now if only I had a record player....

But it's definately a must for the superfan - the mixtape that is.

haha...she told me about the tape too...i said i couldn't make her an offer, but i'd bid on ebay for it...so i let her list it to see who else was biting...

i've spent about £300 with her recently and will be spending a bit more, buying all the stuff she hasn't sold...(so i can sell it to UW fans for big profit ;) )

she got in touch with me before she put everything on ebay, so i had first dibs...so everything on there is stuff i didn't need, or in the case of the cassette, something that i couldn't say how much i'd pay...she might still end up keeping it....

Anyone know which UW album "second hand" was on - was it any good?

Was it on an album - checked BF/ STII/ DNBWMY + not on them

its just a 'version' of 'thing in a book', which is on the April Records 6 Track CD or on the second Dark & Long 12"

the actual track second hand appears on the 'cafe del mar' album and also on a couple of other chill out albums

If anyone wants to sell/trade their copy please come forth...:)

Well, I thought the downtempo version of REM's 'Leave' was really nice. Overall it's quite good imo

Nabbed a CD-S of Rob and Goldie's "The Shadow" on Amazon's used section $1.99 :D Sad that the sound quality on my old Napster era mp3 of The Shadow (Process mix) is better than a real CD though.

Also have the CMJ w/ Underworld from The Anthology release. Its from my radio station though, so its the college radio mailer version with the charts and stuff. Not the thicker commercially availible CMJ. I think its even got WBNY's address on it, so its one of a kind. ;)

is the lyrics booklet separate to the cover / sleeve?
no, the lyrics are printed inside the booklet (http://img77.imageshack.us/my.php?image=mblt7ri.jpg).:)

Same here.

Dunno where it is now though - might bid on this just for fun of having it again. (Which is bound to mean that, if I win it, I will find mine the next day)

Sold to the lady for £2.21. :D

heh! my double12dubno turned up today - now THAT's what i call packaging - sorry folks - it may be outdated technology - but it's a lot of artwork for your buck!

Ahh, you bought that did ya? I was sorely tempted. Then I looked at the likes of BSS. And Lloyd. And Stimps. And Geo. And I thought to myself "If I buy this I won't stop bidding for stuff on eBay". Then I looked at my bank account and made a sensible life choice.

Isn't this the truth! There've been so many ebay auctions that have gotten away from me because someone "wanted it more" (read: had more money than me)! At some point, i always do a cost-benefit analysis...if it's a single track i've never heard, i won't bid too much, because it doesn't make sense to me to pay big bucks for one song. But if it's a very rare item or something with a lot of new-to-me tunes, it seems more "worth it". What is something "worth", anyway? As much as someone's willing to pay, is all. :p

i too have the same dilemas... ;)

but i think, as the 'numberonesuperfan' i must have it, and will bid to get it, i've paid over the odds for a few things mainly to be the first to own something, but i do have limits (like i wouldn't have paid over the odds for the Tokyo CD)

thing is, you can get stuff, at a slightly later date, for much less, which i have found out, and its the 'stupid' people like me who put the price up initially, but this happens all over the place...with many artists

anyhow, that is sadly how auctions work, and the people who make money off auctions, do so in the hope that two people want something so much, that they outbid each other...sometimes you get to buy things for next to nothing, sometimes you pay a lot, but some of the best and rarer items i own have come to me for next to nothing, but then again i trawl bargain bins and record stores constantly

getting mother earth / the hump for £25 was one such occassion...

anyways you never know what may turn up and where...so keep looking people

I too do a 'cost-benefit analysis', it isn't like I buy everything. Because I have most of what I want to own now, the things I miss are the rare ones. I look everywhere on the internet to buy them. I'm not involved in a lot of biddingwars but have lost most of them because the others use snipertools (last second automated bidding).
There are still a lot of bargains at ebay to have, patience is your friend.. and bidding tactics is something you learn. I have a little more budget then most because I work in shifts, but still I won't pay topprices. Most I won at ebay was for normal or even low prices.
In the chat we point eachother to nice items for good prices, currently I'm helping Geo to build his collection of 12" and rare(r) cds for instance, he wins them for very low prices a lot of times.

Now you're being selfish :p

Are they both the genuine article or is one the pale pink and one the darker pink?

its rare but not 25 euro's rare...

pay no more than £10 for this at the most or 15 euros...

although i reckon you could get it for between £5-£8...

its just the album version on a one sided promo, in plastic sleeve - not 'that' special...

one for the collector, but don't pay silly money for it....

new old skool arrivals:

Underworld Mark 1 stuff:

I Need a Doctor / Pray For Me - 1988 Sire 7" Single

oddly enough the credits for this record read:

(Karl Hyde / Rick Smith / Alfie Thomas)
Screen Gems

I've never noticed the Screen Gems name check on any of the old UW stuff before...?!? I wonder how long they used this for?? *checks old UW stock*

i got this off ebay, as usual, also:

Stand Up / Change the Weather - 1989 WB 12" Single Promo - WEA PRO 361 - with 'Cancelled SABC Stamp' on label - nice promo 12"

plus these:

Underworld - Munchen Theaterfabrik - 1.10.89 - Live Gig Cassette (bootleg?) (recorded to Sony C90)
Underworld - Hamburg Grosse Frieheit 6.10.89 - Live Gig Cassette (bootleg?) (recorded to Sony C90)
Underworld - Hamburg Grosse Frieheit 3.9.88 - Live Gig Cassette (bootleg?) (recorded to Sony UX90)
Underworld - Hamburg Knust 9.9.91 - Live Gig Cassette (bootleg?) (recorded to TDK SA 90)
Underworld - HH Knust 9.9.91 (teil 2 / tape 2) - Live Gig Cassette (bootleg?) recorded to Maxell UL 60)

A nice array of old gig recordings, which appear to have been recorded by a fan from the gigs, although they look like the old type of bootleg cassettes they used to sell at record fairs, in 'officially knocked up sleeves' - so these may be better quality than that...?!

i don't have the facility to play these (no cassette player) so i don't know about the sound quality or even track listings, but, if these are missing from the archives, please let me know and i'll sort something out and get them to a digital format and up load them for prosperity, if you old skool UW fans are interested...

obvioulsy i just wanted them to add to the collection, as these may be some of the only recordings of the time...

anyway keep hunting for the old stuff, its the history that matters :)

the only place where i see Screen Gems mentioned on anything else by UW is usually on US released stuff from EMI group:

Glory! Glory! - US Import 12", which has 'published by Sceem Gems - Emi Music Inc' underneath the credits...

no other 12" has a mention...

as couple of 7's also have some 'screen gems' nods...

show some emotion promo - US 7" 'published by Sceem Gems - Emi Music Inc' underneath the credits...
glory glory - US 7" 'published by Sceem Gems - Emi Music Inc' underneath the credits..., plus another 7" mentioned as the I need a Doctor 7"
stand up - US 7" 'published by Sceem Gems - Emi Music Inc' underneath the credits... - not on the UK 7" version

interestingly this spelling of Gems is not how the band used it on their first single, which was Gemz...so its probably more of a link to the EMI company that made the film Underworld, and purely a coincidence...or maybe not...

Hi Raj - No, they are both regular 1 disk versions.

The Dubno 2xcd version with Rez and Why Why Why has cat# V2CI 107-108. Turns up now and then on Ebay.

The Stiti Japanese 2xcd I have comes in a fat double cd jewel case with cat# SRCS 8031-2. Tracks on disk 2 are .NUXX, Rez, Cherry Pie, PG (Carp Dreams Mix). Is that the same as yours?
