Re: 2017-03-17 Alexandra Palace
I'd travel almost anywhere in the US, and most of Canada, to see the carnival concept. That said, Seattle's not seen them since '99...

Who is singing that first part of Rick's set on the third night? Female voice?

I'm in love with this whole set (aside from the weird off-beat part of Lenne Penne)

I don't think I could be able to make Seattle. It's too far away, you know.

Unrelated: see you next time at The Bowl (whenever that is)?

A boy can dream! Namely of a show at marymoor park where I can drive 15 minutes to get home after spending the day across the small parking lot with my dog at the off leash area.

8-page article on the Surreal Carnival Experiment in here:

Lots of interesting behind-the-scenes stuff.

“Back in the 90s,” he says, “the whole trance thing, the
long tracks and the improvisations, I think they were a
reflection of the chemical reality that a lot of people were
living in. Our approach then was very much rooted in
improvisation and we had a big love of people like Miles
Davis. I know that some of our hardcore fans would still
like us to do that. But to be honest, I think if we did, a lot
of other people would get bored!”

Ugh, I know all the monetary and festival headliner and 25 years of amazing music realities of this decision as I often speak to them, but I really do wanna see improv make a return in the set. Particularly when they do 3 nights at a venue and it's the same set, THAT seems boring. I want to see the Barking and Barbara material get the same treatment and evolution live that all the others have. I don't even really mean 20 minutes of improv, just restructure things in a surprising way; give us a slowed down dubbed out scribble, a live performance of 23 blue out of nowhere. It's too bad, cause I think that energy and anxiety of the unknown really resonates with dance music crowds.
