Transit Kings - Living in a Giant Candle (Orb, ex-KLF, Guy Pratt)
The Transit Kings are a supergroup consisting of Alex Patterson, Jimmy Cauty (who is kind of on and off with the band), Guy Pratt, and Dom Beken. Their first album, Living in a Giant Candle Winking at God was just released and if you're a fan of the Orb you really can't miss it - it's (seriously) almost as good as the Orb's early works, and I know that's saying a lot. I bet half of you didn't even know this existed! It definetely reminds me a lot of Ultraworld - very melodically strong, and a lot of really great vocal samples including one from the YMO's Snakemanshow tracks on "Japanese Cars"! I nearly flipped out hearing that!

Anyone have this yet??

also, it's absolutely nothing like the orb. it's horribly plasticky in its production, whereas the early orb's works were organic and earthy/lunar/liquid.

Tis true, but he still gets a writing credit on several of the songs. And yes...it really is far away from the ambient tracks that the Orb does but I do see a lot of similarities in it, mostly in how the vocal samples are used. I didnt have any problem with the production - it seems like they spent a lot of time on the album and while not all of the tracks are great there were enough that I really liked (west end of a duck, free free, america is unavailable, oh shit, the last lighthouse keeper) that I think the album is fairly great.

It looks like the album is getting some very mixed reviews though, so maybe I'm wrong??
