Re: A boundless and insistent version of Second Toughest’s Airtowel
Yes, this is the same as Air Towel Jam, but it's . . . different. Not significantly so, but it's weird that what we got in 2002 was apparently edited.
In this new download, it contains sections that were excised from what was previously released. 0:13-0:42 on the new one were chopped at 0:13 on the old one. 2:48-3:01 on the new were chopped at 2:17 on the old one. 8:59-9:06 on the new one were chopped at 8:05 on the old one And then the new one continues on for about 25 seconds longer at the end. The last two edits, I can see that they were done because of mistakes made, but I don't know why they'd want to remove that, as that's all part of the live performance/experience. I don't know why they did the first edit which removed some percussion stuff. The other weird thing is that while doing A-B comparisons, I couldn't shake the feeling that they were at different tempos. I threw them into a BPM analyzer and the old file came back at 140 BPM, and the new one at 137 BPM. I can only imagine that this is due to some analog tape playback speed issue, and I don't know which one would be right. Quote:
Also known as Rope. I'm a bit surprised we didn't get that in the Beaucoup Fish boxset, as it was played out live during that era. Maybe the AHDO box set? |

Re: A boundless and insistent version of Second Toughest’s Airtowel
...Is that "Unruly July ("I've Been to Every Underworld Gig")"?
I don't have a file with '180501' included in the title / info... 2:55 long track, with a hip-hop-ish beat... but back to Airtowel... maybe the edits were made back then because they weren't totally sure how & if the jam was going to be released? Like, I could see UW making the edits, with the thought that the 'cleaned up' songs were going to be pressed to disc... then changing their minds & just offering them as downloads, along with all the other UWLive stuff... |

Love having this track back on my hard drive. Having it at 320kb/sec is icing on the cake

Re: A boundless and insistent version of Second Toughest’s Airtowel
I've always been a fan of "Air Towel", and this jam in particular.
Thanks to The Bang for the detailed side by side comparison. So, even though this isn't new for some, at least it's a little different and better Sonic quality. If Rick and Karl are delving into the vaults, how about some Cappe Ffuno? It's for me what Five Points is to other old skool dirts!

I really do not care for the cover, but I love this version. I would really really love to have an archive release! But happy to have this version in a good quality
