Chicane "Red Skies" and Dark Train
Don't know if this has been discussed before but I think that Chicane "Red Skies" sounds a lot like Dark Train. So much so I checked for credits and it does not seem UW was credited.

it does sound a bit similar in the beginning, seems like he's using the same "aaaahhhhh" vocal sample. But i don't really hear any resemblance in the rest of the track.

Same intro, but once the synthesised strings kick in at thirty secs the mood does a real right turn. I like "Red Skies"; reminds me of good times in 1998. Then ATB came along and everything turned bobbins. Chicane's first album was mint, though.

Chicane's first record is amazing, and yeah, I remember first hearing Red Skies on the Offshore '97 single and thinking "er, this sounds like Underworld" - same choir sound and almost the same bass, both in the same key too. Wouldn't be surprised if it was intentional.
His second album wasn't bad either. Shame about everything since then (although the new one's promised to be more like the first than anything since).

Oddly enough the last thing I heard him do was a "Cars" cover, so I thought he'd gone down the plughole for sure.

Wow, that sound at the beginning is extremely similar. I haven't heard Chicane in a looong time, but now I'm remembering how good his first (and most of his second) album was. I think he's talented, but I wish he'd focus more on music and less on vocals nowadays. Hell, if he just made ambient music, I think he'd be better off.

Re: Chicane "Red Skies" and Dark Train
Seriously, that Nine At Night song was like a starting pistol for trance to get prostituted. I remember the next summer it was everywhere, like even when you opened a birthday card (case in point: Binary Finary's "1998" [1999 remix]). If it hadn't been for Beaucoup Fish, The Middle of Nowhere and the sorely-underrated Rhythm & Stealth I probably would have dashed to the nearest runway to give myself tinnitus.

Another good second-cousin to "Dark Train" is "Cut to Zero" by X Cabs. Hook Recordings, whatever the hell happened to you.
