Re: 2010-10-25 Washington DC ( 930 club!!! )
good show..
loved 'dirty epic' at the end.. i'm tired after driving for 12 hours... so i'll talk about it more in a little while.. sure it was pretty similar to other shows.. but at this point, can you blame them? they wanted to push the new tracks, and to their credit the breaks between songs was pretty short.. historical fact : it's been almost 11 years since they were last here, ------- http://uwlive.rowla.com/gigs/view/150 it was my first underworld show ever !!! boy do i remember that one.. a lot has changed.. those 20 somethings (not me) are now in their 30's... and a whole new crowd has discovered them in that time.. overlapping songs from that show : rez/cowgirl / born slippy.nuxx / king of snake back then they were pushing 'beacoup fish', so that show had 6 songs from that album...but not moaner ! later -1 |

Re: 2010-10-25 Washington DC ( 930 club!!! )
definitely downpipe.
I'm a little baffled at the universally positive response to the show, though. pretty clearly they were working out kinks. at times the sound was terrible-- during king of snake, for example, it was like the top half of the mix was missing-- you couldn't hear the trebly part that of course in this song carries the entire melody! other songs just did not sound punchy-- dirty epic was great to hear of course, but it sounded incredibly muddy/indistinct compared to the last time I heard it (atlanta about 18-20 months ago). plus, the crowd... so hard to figure out. the way they reacted to nuxx but (for example) not Two Months made it seem like an audience with little knowledge of the canon, just a taste for what they heard on the radio once upon a time. on the other hand, second-best reception was for rez/cowgirl, which clearly shows it was a crowd of great discernment and taste (). (sorry. they agreed with me in thinking it was the high point of the evening so they must be smart!) no, seriously, there was some energy, but only at points, and generally not nearly as much as other UW shows I've seen. and... really sorry about this... I just don't see that Karl has quite as much confidence in the new material as he did even when they toured OWB. I kind of felt for him at moments, thinking he felt like he had to work real hard to sell it.... I don't know. hopefully ny and points west will see better shows. I was a little underwhelmed. |

Re: 2010-10-25 Washington DC ( 930 club!!! )
The DC crowd can be disappointing at any show. I did notice a bunch of people just standing about, but too bad for them. I was up in the front and grooving throughout so I didn't notice the shortcomings with the sound, but this was my first UW show so I was out of my head anyway. Karl did mention on the UWlive.com site that they were jetlagged so that might explain things with the performance.
