2005-07-12 Montreux Jazz Festival
So, I stumbled upon the Montreux Jazz Festival website today, and found some very interesting things regarding Underworld's performance there 4 years ago.

First of all, there's a setlist:

http://www.montreuxsounds.com/detail2006.php?fiche=2736

Quote:
1. Globe(00:08:32)
2. Skyscraper(00:10:14)
3. New Train(00:09:33)
4. Pearls Girl(00:05:56)
5. Hard Vibe D4(00:06:27)
6. King Of Snake(00:09:02)
7. Lenny Penny(00:07:57)
8. You Do Scribble(00:04:51)
9. Rez(00:09:45)
10. Cowgirl(00:04:02)
11. Born Slippy(00:12:21)
12. Jumbo(00:08:23)
13. Moaner(00:06:27)
Secondly, you might have noticed there are track timings in that setlist above. There's a very good reason for that. Apparently, Montreux Festival records EVERYTHING. Both audio and video. So, yes, sitting in a vault somewhere is a high definition video recording of that night's performance.

Here are some links where they talk about how they've recorded everything in HD since 2002, and how they're releasing some of it on CD, DVD, and Blu-ray:

I wonder if there's any chance we'll ever see Underworld.

Nice find!
And if I may quote that website:
  • Smith, Rick (digital wizardry)
  • Hyde, Karl (banjo)
  • Hyde, Karl (vocals)
  • Price, Darren (turntable)

Yeah, I saw that. It must be the boys having fun with the archivists.

Unless . . . well, there were a few Dirts at that show. Can anyone confirm or deny the existence of banjos at the gig?

Re: 2005-07-12 Montreux Jazz Festival
yea - I remember hearing/reading about how the people who set up the Montreux Jazz Festival record every year...

It was on another band's website... I can't remember which one... but obviously, someone who had also performed at one or more of their festivals before

...now... if I can remember correctly... there was talk at some point in time of selling old performances - if not EVERYONE's, then at least "best of's" each year -> but the likelihood of either of these situations happening, are really slim to none (file it under "contractual problems" with each performers' record label)

and I even recall that there was one guy - or at least an individual representing a group/company who was buying up many/all of the performances for dvd release... but again same problems as aforementioned as it was like he would own the rights to the individual recordings but he wouldn't be able to actually distribute them - or something to that effect

all I'm saying is: yea - there's a lot A LOT A LOT of great concerts over the years from this specific event... which will never see the light of day (at least for as long as anyone would care - I mean, I can't imagine anyone in 2020 caring or even knowing who... Leftfield were - for example)
