Re: Under the influence with Underworld
Sounds promising. I think I read it on Karl's blog earlier that a new album is on the way (or maybe it was just me who wanted to interpret it that way). But "spaces with a more controlled environment in terms of sound where we can deliver higher quality sound, where people can enjoy the richness of sounds that we are producing" sounds just as good to me

Re: Under the influence with Underworld
I loved parts of Karl's solo album and the Brian Eno collaboration but I'm really looking forward to get back to the real stuff.
2016 seems far away, but it sounds like they are searching for the ultimate combination of a crowd pleaser and a sophisticated & complete sound that Karl is talking about. It was quite obvious that they are testing something during these concerts and I think this is the reason why Rick stayed longer at the mixing board. I must say I feel happy that I had the chance to see it live. I had a very good view from the upper circle at the Casino de Paris, so I could see them all with the audience in between. Their interplay in this set gave an extra dimension to the whole experience. There are lots of good music out there but what makes UW so special is that they have the full circle - the art, the spirit, the personality (oh yes, we shook hands so now I know ) and the fact that they are so aware about it all. But I guess that's what separates real professionals from the natural talented. I'm a hooked hardcore fan forever

Re: Under the influence with Underworld
Their chemistry is a large part if the magic recipe of Underworld for me. When I listen, its more often a live set than not cause I wanna hear ricks little tricks and Karls jubilant responses.
Any idea what the something is they might be testing? Rick staying on the mixing board could be a number of things from recovery to just taking an opportunity to do things from a different view point. I only hope that whatever it is they are working on, its true to themselves. Everything they've been saying has only served to make me more optimistic about it, though. They're clearly enjoying what they are doing right now and hopefully that transfers into their studio work. Congrats on seeing them, can't wait for June in Hollywood! |

Re: Under the influence with Underworld
Probably they are just testing and tuning to get a better sound. The base/drums during mmm Skyscraper that you can hear in my video was incredibly good. It's difficult to hear it because it was recorded with a quite small camera but it was massive.

Re: Under the influence with Underworld
I just hope that I can dance to whatever they produce! Would be great if they gave some of the new stuff a trial at the festival shows.
I do love the attention to detail in the production, but unfortunately most of my listening now-a-days in through headphones at work so some of that detail is lost on me. Probably completely the wrong thread, but does any one have a favourite headphone for listening to Underworld? |

Re: Under the influence with Underworld
Most of my listening has been done on beyerdynamic dt770s, mostly due to lack of options. A solid headphone that's a tad lacking in the midrange. Very comfy and great all around cans. I've used Sony mdr-v6s as well, also very nice, but a little sharp on the treble.
