and the reason they were out of paper? faxed invitations to oblivion with bells

Re: R.I.P. Oink
man, no doubt on the ratio.
I rarely downloaded anything based on that... i could never get good upload speeds there and whilst i used it occasionally, I wasn't a regular user.

There's certainly a way, but I'd really doubt that they'd ever do it. They've made this kind of threat before.

Re: R.I.P. Oink
i think that oink apparantly was the source of a lot of pre-releases (not the people getting the pre-releases... NO! not them!), so I think they would go after the people who uploaded those and uploaded lots of new stuff or GB's... Good luck!

well - if it's only a problem if you uploaded GB's worth of material...

OMG there is even an OiNK Memorial Blog!

Now we are getting silly. There will be OiNK bereavement counsellors before long...

Re: R.I.P. Oink
I dropped my hard drive about 2 hours before this happened, wiping out about 100 gigs of music. I think I also lost my will to live.

A lotta the good stuff is owned... but honestly... so much... lost...

dude, don't give up..

i've wiped out 2 hard drives in a move, but i've been able
to use spinrite to recover most of the drives..its VERY VERY
time consuming, and i've had to dedicate a laptop to it 24/7
but its 95% done, and almost every bit has been recovered..

you don't want to end up having to send it a data recovery
place though, that's very expensive..

always, remember, try to have things backed up to dvd, etc.
i do incremental back ups now, and have things in 2 places,
its not perfect, but at least i'm not going to lose everything
at once..

later
