Re: Underworld on Tour with SSL Live: Interview with Rick Smith and Karl Hyde
Between this and the Karl Hyde Arte interview in the other thread, we are given a fairly clear picture of both R and K's views on the last 5+ years of the band. In the arte interview Karl expresses past frustration about working methods, likely in the lead up to Barking, saying that, "Underworld had become a file sharing group." Rick in this interview states that he feels he had spent 5-7 years just tweaking the lights on stage with the old setup. They both mention that they needed some time apart but had committed to never actually splitting up the band. Based on sarcastic comments they both made at the BBC show ("never a cross word between us, eh, ricky?") I wouldn't be surprised at all if they'd both gotten frustrated with where UW had come to and had a falling out sometime after the 2010 tour. Many people here noted the lack of chemistry on stage in the intervening years, and it's been fairly apparent the current overflowing chemistry they've managed to recapture during this last tour and the quality and proper UW-ness of Baby Wants to Ride.
These are both worth watching and I'm definitely hoping they can maintain their current momentum. |

Re: Underworld on Tour with SSL Live: Interview with Rick Smith and Karl Hyde
The number one website request i have for Underworld is for Rick and Karl to walk us through the live performance of a song. I am so curious how these machines work.

Brilliant interview. I like it when Rick talks about the music and the tech.
