Sydney Hotel Room Peal
‘I remember when Rick first sent me this piece he’d written in his hotel room in Sydney back in 2008 (I seem to remember him taking his laptop into the fire-exit stairwell to listen to the natural reverb and getting very excited...). For many many years, it was my go-to piece for combating my insomnia. It was only this weekend, when I was talking to Rick about the track that I realised that was precisely what he wrote it for.’ (Mike Gillespie - UW manager)

Re: Sydney Hotel Room Peal
Really lovely. The slowing pace of the peeling melodies has a biomusicological significance (compare with Marconi Union's "Weightless").
Have we heard the faster start of this before? In a radio show, maybe? Or a track I'm forgetting from Breaking and Entering, etc?

Brilliant. Not sure if this link works. Is there another fixed link?

Re: Sydney Hotel Room Peal
It's very similar to 'Primrose Hill' from Breaking and Entering.

Edit: Yes, I was right! It's from the 2nd day of 013 in 2005. It was played as the intro, into JAL to Tokyo. Which means at least part of it was from earlier than 2008, contrary to Mike's note. Technically, it'd probably be a Riverrun-era track. |

I haven't listened to B&E soundtrack for a few years, but am now... Remembering how warm and beautiful it was/is.

Re: Sydney Hotel Room Peal
Nice. Given when Sydney Hotel Room Peal was composed, it very well could have been a template or starting point for them and Gabriel when creating Primrose HIll.

Re: Sydney Hotel Room Peal
It's been one of my regular albums to sleep to since it came out, so it's practically carved into my subconscious.
'Primrose Hill' sounds like it's been transposed into a minor key. |
