- you ever think we'll ever find real intelligent life out there?
- who cares?

also, to chime in on the original topic, I found The Fountain only worked when in the contemporary story. The Spanish storyline and futuristic tree scenes didn't work at all for me...which is odd because I normally really dig tripped-out scifi and open-ended storytelling...but not this time.
the score was fantastic, though.
ditto Hugh Jackman. between this and The Prestige (probably my fav flick this year), the ol canucklehead's doing alright for himself.

speaking of meat beat in this digression and of-topic-by-way back to the original post, there is a new DVD of MBM live from Chicago in 05.

/adds to xmas wish list.
How the hell did this release slip by me?! I saw them twice on that tour, bought the CD of this show and have been listening to it pretty frequently since. Anyone who's interested in live video/audio mixing (and of course any MBM fans) should definitely pick this up.

Re: The Fountain SPOILER thread
Finally saw this last week, and I thought it was cool. Nowhere near as good as Requiem and Pi but still a D.A. film and I'm a huge fan of his movies. Very sad story with the cure so close yet eternally far away. I love the awesome visuals and the music. Needs repeat viewings but it's too slooow for you to really want to ever do that. Rental.

I just watched this and found it to be intensely beautiful. I particularly loved all the scenes of bald Hugh Jackman from the future whispering to the tree.

Re: The Fountain SPOILER thread
Just watched this thanks to two great recommendations.

Deeply moving and beautiful.

From the story, to the overall look,
to the absolute marvel that is the score by Clint Mansell and the Kronos Quartet. (with Mogwai as well.)

This film was a piece of art. I also have my own connections to the story that made it very personal for me.

I pass the recommendation...

Cheers....

there is a commentary for anyone who has it, or wants to rent...
