Re: Is New Line dumb enough to make the Hobbit w/o P Jackson?!?
Thought I saw somewhere on the web that MGM has the rights to release "The Hobbit" while New Line has rights to produce it. MGM, which could use a big hit to help its recent rash of stinkers ( New Line too), was not informed by New Line that it would not be working with Jackson; the article I read ( I will look for link) said that MGM was not happy with this decision and wants PJ. Maybe there is still hope?
Either way I hope that whoever makes this movie will stay true to the story. "The Hobbit" is a masterpiece. PJ & Fran Walshs' screenplay left me cringing in some places, esp. RoTK, i.e. Gollum causing rift between Frodo & Sam with whole eating the waybread scene. Lame. Would be great if Ian McKellan, Ian Holmes & Hugo Weaving reprised their roles; hard to picture anyone doing sets and effects other than WETA. Can't wait to see Smaug!
