orson scott card: the ender saga
almost finished xenocide which is the the third book and have to say the series so far has been of the rather excellent, intelligent, philosophical science fiction variety

definitely recommended, your starting poiint is the first book in the series ender's game which is a wonderful, page turning read and you don't need to read any more books in the series after that as the first book is kind of self-contained

if you do however read more, you'll certainly be rewarded

some more info can be found here

Re: orson scott card: the ender saga
i'm in the midst of finally getting around to Shadow of the Giant right now... I can say for as much as I enjoyed the first quad of books dealing with Ender, i have been pretty disappointed with the second quad dealing with Bean. right now all i see is reactionary stuff to the Iraq war mixed with weirdo mormon religious stuff.... a shame really because Ender's Game, Speaker for the Dead, and Xenocide were all excellent in my opinion (Children of the Mind is pretty good too but felt a lot like just tying up loose ends to me)... Ender's Shadow, Shadow of the Hegemon, Shadow Puppets, and now Shadow of the Giant have gotten progressively worse for me.

agreed that ender's game / speaker for the dead / xenocide are excellent books. ender's game in particular. to anyone reading this thread who has not read ender's game should go here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/081...Fencoding=UTF8 and pick it up for a few dollars.

Re: orson scott card: the ender saga
I usually say that ender's game is not just one of my favorite sci fi books, but one of my favorite books in general. The rest of the series I found also good but much more sci fi-ish and not exactly the cross over ability as the first. Having the same religious back ground as the author adds to the experience, especially since he tends to incorporate the mormon myths into his story lines and characters. (which is why the books can veer off into the surreal side )

Well, I started reading it last night at about 8pm, put it down at about 2am. Almost finished. I have Speaker and Xenocide arriving tomorrow.

I love having a Librarian mother-in-law

I read Ender's Game and Speaker for the Dead and enjoyed both. I listened to the audio book of Ender's Shadow and enjoyed it. I haven't read any of the other books.

Re: orson scott card: the ender saga
Ugh. Read Ender's Game some months ago and picked Xenocide instead of Speaker Of The Dead. Time to go back to the library tomorrow!

Ender's game was absolutely awesome. The 6th sense-esque ending was one of the best things I've ever read..

Songmaster is another great Card read. Its old school and it might be difficult to find a copy, but its one of his better non series books.
