Re: T2: Trainspotting
and i dunno whoever mastered/remastered older songs for this soundtrack because the Run DMC vs Jason Nevins track sounds absolute ghastly. like they remastered it from a 128kbps MP3. i purchased the lossless and just terrible for that one track. i also used iTunes to preview and you can hear there as well. so i went and searched "Run DMC vs Jason Nevins" on iTunes and it brought up the T2 soundtrack and other releases it was one. i went and A/B'ed and you can hear the difference between them. The T2 version sounds terrible! What the f, Polydor Records???

Re: T2: Trainspotting
Yes, the mastering on the CD is defective - Run DMC sounds awful, no oomph to the kick drum at all. The High Contrast one might be affected too - I've nothing to compare it too, but there's nowhere near as much low bass as I'd expect.

The Young Fathers sound awful too, but that might not be down to the mastering ;-)

Here's the Amazon.com link to buy the US domestic release of the soundtrack (ignore the fact that the product page says "Import"; it's not). It's not coming out until the beginning of March, to coincide with the US release of the film.

Not buying if it's as crapmastered as they say. Underwhelmed by Slow Slippy and The Prodigy remix I've heard. Young Father's? Nope. Roll on the Beaucoup Fish box set...

PS am I getting old and cranky? Sure. But for a film that wallows in nostalgia, the soundtrack is just that. Safe retreads and nowhere near the energy of the original. As a teen in the 90s, Trainspotting was a major musical/visual experience. A teen these days might hardly care. As a thirtysomething this time around, I love the nostalgia but hate the adaptation. It's pandering. Better to just play the original tracks and let us fill in the context, rather than remixes that hint at the original feel, but remind you that something's changed for the worse over time...

"Temptation" (1987 version) New Order
"Perfect Day" Lou Reed
"Nightclubbing" Iggy Pop
"Deep Blue Day" Brian Eno

Cover of classics
"Atomic" Sleeper

Previously released

"2:1" Elastica (1995)
"Sing" Blur (1991)
"For What You Dream Of" (Full-on Renaissance Mix) Bedrock (1993)

New songs
"Trainspotting" Primal Scream
"Mile End" Pulp
"A Final Hit" Leftfield

Re: T2: Trainspotting
You're not wrong. But remember that the first film is actually set in the 1980's, so the tracks of that era are appropriate. And nostalgic for viewers in the 90's and on...

I guess my point was, whether a classic or previously released, that soundtrack sounded fresh and vibrant. I'm not feeling the same from T2. Just an opinion.

Re: T2: Trainspotting
Really hope we get an additional release of music from this film, especially Rick's new music. Pretty sure I heard a new version of Dark Train with that Two Months Off bit recycled yet again, and there's a rick version of perfect day as well.

Re: T2: Trainspotting
I just watched T2 and find it interesting that Rick is credited with original songs. On the writing credits he has a reference to the 1690 song that is hilariously awful.

Re: T2: Trainspotting
Yeah, I noticed that song credit. There are some score bits too. Not enough to do a full score release, but I wish they would do a digital or self release of the 20 min. or so of music cues.

Oh, it's probably all copyright Sony Pictures though. Bah.
