1984
I finally read this book this summer. (It's one of those books they always told me I'd read in school later, but never did, like To Kill a Mockingbird.) 1984 is easily the scariest book I've ever read. It's also instantly one of my favorites. The sense of utter hopelessness is terrifying, and it all seems too real. It was more interesting for me because I read it while living in Poland for a few months. Of course it's absolutely ridiculous to compare it now to Oceania, but I would see the old huge 1970's appartment blocks and couldn't help but be reminded of Victory Gardens. There's one major question I have about the plot that for me would change my entire outlook on the book, but I don't want to ruin it with any spoilers. Anyone up for a private discussion?
