Re: Black Poppies - new song
I wonder if those lyrics from the visualiser are snippets from the (other) album tracks?
If so, do any of the other lines match with e.g. Gene Pool or SH? Cut a hole in the news (Gene Pool) don?t make it complicated we?re no longer alone (denver Luna) you may feel a little strange at first (Black Poppies) Mr Mickey Marley (King of Haarlem) wild black and white (Strawberry Hotel / new title?) my eyes go crazy (and the colour red) keeps adopting, adapting (Black Poppies) if nature is heaven in her arms you live happy glitter finger, numbering four weeks studs like tiny stars machines playing tunes to block out the life, block out the light (denver Luna) set fire to it if you want to see it go up in flames follow the line to the rising sun we are all of these things and more things

Re: Black Poppies - new song
i don't think this songs deters from the album release.
we've already heard some strong songs from this album already. this is just a mid-2nd or 3rd song they felt like putting out alongside the announcment. i doubt the whole album will sound like this, so i'm not concerned. later | || | | | ne gative 1 |

Re: Black Poppies - new song
I actually think all the tracks so far have been great, including Black Poppies. Find it confusing as a single, but we have already had several others released/previewed that are more epic. Mainly baffled by the art direction and album rollout, and that's mainly because of the high bar from early Tomato and Drift respectively, as mentioned.
Am excited about Denver Luna into Techno Shinkansen into Colour Red at the start, and thinking Black Poppies may potentially move to the end as a closing track for me, so that Denver Luna kicks it off. We'll see.

but I really like Black Poppies as a mood and tone setter. It just so happens that Denver Luna needs no lead-in and has the perfect mix of salty and sweet self-contained in the same track. |

Re: Black Poppies - new song
Black Poppies (unplugged) on the email list today:
Honestly if this IIFU stuff is a lead in to handing these kids the keys to Underworld Mk4 as a modern classical group, I'd be down for it. There are worse ways to retire from the music business. |

Re: Black Poppies - new song
Definitely a beautiful version/rendition/orchestration and interesting place to take it to in contrast to the often electronic production nature of UW. Seems like they might be aiming for more variety and expansion this time, even though there is always a lot.
I've actually been thinking more and more of BBWFASF, Drift, and now SH as a Mk4 era, since they almost broke up after Barking and were trying to pass UW on, then the solo stuff and 6 year gap being the biggest they've had. They seem to really enjoy each other and the work since they came back for Barbara, and the inclusion of their daughters on that album, Black Country on Drift, and it sounds like Esme will be on SH, might be a good reason to designate it a new era. That and I like the feel of three trilogies (plus Mk1).
