Drift Encodings
Just noticed something running Air Towel and Pearls Girl through MusicBrainz Picard:

- Air towel was encoded in Logic Pro X 10.4.4
- Pearls Girl was encoded in iTunes 12.9.4.94
both of which are the most recent versions.

So, I took a look at the other releases, as far as we got MP3's to download:

- Small Conker And A Twix: iTunes 12.9.2.5

Drift 2:
- Apple Shine: iTunes 12.9.2.5
- Molehill: iTunes 12.9.2.5
- Threats of Rain: iTunes 12.9.2.5
- Brussels: iTunes 12.9.2.5
- Soniamode: iTunes 12.9.2.5
- Appleshine Continuum (I do not recall if this was a download, but I have it as iTunes encode, so I assume it was): iTunes 12.9.2.5

- Are you rockstar?: Logic Pro X 10.4.4
- Twist: Logic Pro X 10.4.2

Drift 3:
- Dune: no download
- Custard Speedtalk: Logic Pro X 10.4.4
- This Must Be Drum Street (Film Edit): Logic Pro X 10.4.4
- Pinetum: iTunes 12.9.4.94
- Poet Cat: iTunes 12.9.4.94

- Air towel was encoded in Logic Pro X 10.4.4
- Pearls Girl was encoded in iTunes 12.9.4.94

Drift 4:
- Listen To Their No: no download
- Schiphol Test: iTunes 12.9.4.94

I will continue to update this list.

I wonder how they use Logic? For mastering? Or for actual production? I always thought Rick would rather use pro tools, but I have no clue? Does anyone one have any recent interviews about that?

Re: Drift Encodings
I wish they wouldn't use the Apple built-in encoders. It would be much nicer quality if they would run it through a LAME encoder instead.

Regarding Dune, that wasn't released as a free download on uwlive.com, so you probably got that from a retailer somewhere.

Fully agreed on LAME. It would also generate a smaller file size.

I am still surprised they use the latest version of Logic, though.
Nearly all musicians (and podcasterS0 I know, would rather a release or 2 before updating or at least wait a couple of weeks, as plugins tend to break.
But then again, if it is only for mastering, it would make a bit more sense, but really I wonder.

I will correct that.

Re: Drift Encodings
Every Logic user I know has given up on it in since Logic X came out. Good to know somebody's still using it.

Seriously? For me it's the opposite, though I have heard of enough people leaving FCP X behind. IDK, I am still fooling around with Logic 9 but only because I did not have change to cough of for Logic X. Later in the year maybe, but I am still all in on Logic.

Re: Drift Encodings
Is it possible Rick used Logic to encode the latest one because he did some extra work on it before releasing?

I think if then mastering? Did he use Logic before? If anyone has any gear related interviews, I’m dying for links

Re: Drift Encodings
There's quite a bit of info in this article. Not a lot about Logic, but it's pretty clear Logic is integral to his process.
