Re: VOTE DIRTY: Dirty Beatport Remix Submissions: voting period is 2nd-16th November
It's Monday the 15th and the track at the top of the remix contest has had 351 spins and 324 listens...i mean waddafuk! More spins than listens. Go figure!

Re: VOTE DIRTY: Dirty Beatport Remix Submissions: voting period is 2nd-16th November
The voting methods in these kinds of contests are usually pretty lame. They seem to determine who can get the most friends to go vote for them than more than determining the best remix. That's why I wasn't too torn up about not having time to finish my mix for the contest. I'll finish it for myself and will share it here when it's done, and that's enough for me.

Re: VOTE DIRTY: Dirty Beatport Remix Submissions: voting period is 2nd-16th November
A fairly simple tweak to the voting procedures at beatport would go a long way toward eliminating some of the blatant scamming going on: Require that the registered user listen to the entire track before the Spin It! (vote) button becomes available to click. If they want to FFWD or RWD, fine, but the vote button stays 'greyed out' until they listen start to finish. If someone actually likes a mix enough to vote for it, they won't mind having to listen through the entire thing in one go.
The fact (really just my opinion) that nine of the top ten tracks are either crap, cheated their way to the top, or both, is a disappointment. That's nearly half the advancing spots going to undeserving mixes. BUT, that still leaves 10 spots for the truly great ones, which is a generous allotment in itself. Surely, the entire group of dirty-mixers won't make the cut, but I'd be stunned if there weren't a nice selection in the 10. LX Nen, among the remixes that really blew me away, yours is closest to the top, so I'm declaring you the winner! Nice work. Lollipop for you. Making my mix was a ton of fun and a tremendous learning experience (first effort with Cakewalk Sonar). Listening to everyone else's mixes was a lot of fun and a tremendous learning experience (so many good ideas to steal). I think I made it through ninety of 'em, reviewing most of the group. All of the feedback I received will help me greatly in crafting future mixes (blah blah...tremendous learning experience). Thanks to all who listened. To everyone else...you've one more day to make it count. reactor. |

Nice post dude, it's all a good learning journey. Thanks for your review of my remix I take it all on board, good or bad. Was that a TR606 drum machine on your remix?

Re: VOTE DIRTY: Dirty Beatport Remix Submissions: voting period is 2nd-16th November
Jolly well done to all the quality Dirty mixes out there, a thoroughly respectable showing and yes, a shame that quite a proportion of the top ten don't appear to be 'legitimate'.
Hopefully the Beatport editorial staff will do a half decent job of finding the quality in there and give Underworld a properly representative selection to listen to (and not just the skewed top 10). Thanks for the reviews for my effort, esp. reactorstudios and LX. I've had a punt at the Devo (What We Do) contest now, I'd be grateful for some opinions (and spins!) for my entry which can be found here (it's the Uncles of Wise Blacklisted Mix): http://www.beatportal.com/remix/deta...acklisted-mix/ Good luck all the Devo entrants! (New thread for Devo Dirty mixes perhaps?) ttfn, Mr Tim Uncles of Wise. |

Re: VOTE DIRTY: Dirty Beatport Remix Submissions: voting period is 2nd-16th November
some of these are good, but most are garbage... i have something like 290 listens, but 43 spins... that's just weak. no matter. I have the remix and I'm happy with it.

Re: VOTE DIRTY: Dirty Beatport Remix Submissions: voting period is 2nd-16th November
Can someone more familiar w/ Beatport give us a rundown on how these contests usually play out? How long does it usually take for the finalists/winners to be announced?
Definitely have my fingers crossed for a few of the excellent Dirty remixes to make the cut!

Re: VOTE DIRTY: Dirty Beatport Remix Submissions: voting period is 2nd-16th November
Well, this is my first one, but there's an update from Beatport on the rules page...
"Update: Due to an overwhelming amount of entries we have postponed our winner announcement to December 6th, 2010. Stay tuned for the lucky winner." The other competitions seem to have their lists of finalists released anywhere from a week before the winner is announced to a week after.

Re: VOTE DIRTY: Dirty Beatport Remix Submissions: voting period is 2nd-16th November
Beatport have just made some... ahem... 'adjustments' to the spin counts, and things are looking a lot more honest now. The worst offenders lost over 300 spins.
No official word on the official top 10 yet (or the additional 10 picked by staff to be judged), but from a poke around the google cache of the now deleted voting page, and a bit of cross-referencing, I *think* only 3 of the original top 10 are still there after the recount. It looks to me like we actually have 3 dirts into round 2 by right, instead of none before. By my reconing, I'm 4th, joined in the top 10 by Marshall Watson in 7th, and the Uncles of Wise in 10th, with Dunwho just 1 vote behind in joint 11th (so if any dirts reading this didn't vote, kick yourselves now!).
