Re: [new tracks] -> _unreleased_dubnobasswithmyheadman_era_
i think the DAT wasn't meant to represent an LP but rather some finished tracks. taking the DAT's listing as an LP tracklist is a step in the wrong direction. i doubt anybody connected with UW thought that sequence of songs would be released in that exact order. it was meant to shop around the music to get a deal according to deckard. thinking of that order as an album order is misguided.

Re: [new tracks] -> _unreleased_dubnobasswithmyheadman_era_
attention: the Underworld thief JPV, Jean Paul Vincent is hard at work getting these files. He has been known to sell bootlegs of Underworld material for his own financial gain. please be aware. his IP address always begins with 84.28.xx.xx though he does attempt to get around his IP being discovered.
please be aware of who you are sharing with. it's one thing to pass this around the 'true' fans (i.e. those who don't try to profit from UW's music) but another to just blindly allow assholes like JPV to download them then sell for a profit on ebay or wherever.

Hey folks. So I'm having problems being able to even send an email to the rtsr group. Could someone please pm me with any tips on how to get my hands on these tracks?
Thanks so much! Sean

Re: [new tracks] -> _unreleased_dubnobasswithmyheadman_era_
Thanks a bunch, I was always fascinated at now UW mk1 became mk2. Listening to the mk1 albums (which I enjoy but don't see as having much replay value) it's hard to imagine those guys were talented at all, much less capable of something as great as dubnobass, so it's nice to see the connection - these three tracks DO sound like they began as mk1 compositions, and if you hear the 1990 mk1 demo you can see they were starting to change direction a bit. Although it's techincally mk2 the "Mother Earth/The Hump" single did just sound like the mk1 band with a bit of DJ input. I really admire what became of "M.E." for the album. In a way I see dubnobass as being the 'full realization' of the sort of electronic music that much of the 80's was going for. It's easy to see many of those tracks done in a cheap New Romantic style. However with Emerson's help they really got the right idea and made a fantastic album, the likes of which probably will never come again, considering that Underworld had, in retrospect, the perfect history to create an album with that feel. This DAT version doesn't have the tracks that kind of buck that trend ("Cowgirl", "Spoonman") so that influence is a bit clearer now. Thanks for sharing!

Re: [new tracks] -> _unreleased_dubnobasswithmyheadman_era_
okay; my take:
organ: this is not a bad song at all; it would've fit well as a b side on a lemon interrupt record; it's at least as good as minneapolis and better than eclipse. nice groove. big meat show: i'm surprised noone has mentioned the humour in this song yet. it obviously wasn't meant to be released. when i first saw 'big meat show' i thought 'okay... underworld has some strange titles sometimes', but i didn't think it would actually be about a big ole dingus! besides that, the music is good; there's bits of tongue and several other things in there- it's not bad, but it was obviously cutting room floor material. can u feel me: sounds like a cover of someone else, can't put my finger on it. no big instrumentals or anything as far as i know; not listening too closely. it's not stellar so i see why it didn't go on the album. it fits in the mood of 'mother earth' in that it's more of a traditional song. will comment more about the rest later. |
