Re: nine inch nails - year zero
i'm not trying to convince you not to like it - the only reason i made an issue about that track is b/c i also noticed that it was trying to sound sort of unstable, and it struck me that it could've/should've been way more radical. these all just seem like endless slight variations on a certain type of pop song. i wish he'd stop trying to be pop, it's not interesting (to me) anymore.

Haze, Politikil, Ambiantz do it for me.

Do not like track 10 in the slightest bit. There's a first time for everything, I guess.

Re: nine inch nails - year zero
Such a shame the quality of the album won't be on the same level as the hype they're creating, which is not bad at all. They sure catched a lot of people's attention (including mine).

This would work much better if it was done by unknown people, I guess.

Re: nine inch nails - year zero
The really unfortunate thing seems to me is that The Fragile was him making (slightly) less poppy stuff and all the critics said it was bloated and meandering and as a result he's trying to make more conventional stuff again. Boo for listening to the critics, Trent. Boo.

Re: nine inch nails - year zero
rock critics are so lame. i always thought The Fragile was completely logical & easy to follow. that is such a predictable thing to say about a double album.

I think it's mandatory for double album reviews.

Re: nine inch nails - year zero
I just found out that the last bit is "believe"

...I just REALLY REALLY HOPE THAT THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ALIENS!
(as I'm pretty sure "I'm trying to believe" was a catchphrase for X-Files)

yea - it does seem that people will just automatically discount anything that's a double album... or really if the artist actually takes advantage of the available space on a cd and *gasp* actually fills it with music!

although - I will say, the Fragile was a very good album. If it was trimmed down to say... one 80min cd, and proper singles w/ bsides, it would've been a great album

and I kinda liked "Starfuckers" - as I always took it as an intentionally 'stupid song' know what I mean? Now - if the song was supposed to be serious... then that's a whole different story

(edit)
which reminds me... any chance someone could hook me up with either the Vinyl or Cassette versions of "The Fragile"? I never was able to track down the cassette (and I don't have a tape deck) and I couldn't find the vinyl version for a reasonable price
[if you didn't know - the cd, cassette, and vinyl releases of that album each were different. Apparently, some tracks are different mixes, have longer/shorter intro's or outtro's, and I think each of the three versions of the album have tracks exclusive to their format]

Huh. Lestiduz is the only one I find myself wandering with, but even then it has moments that pull me back to it. I think all of Mythmaker is pretty wonderful, to be honest. But then, it also feels like one of those moments where the music I'm listening to is just in sync with where I am in my life, for some reason.

Not that that's a deep dark place for me or anything.

NO TRIMMING THE FRAGILE. Seriously, there's about two tracks there I wouldn't miss.
