people who appreciate a variety of music and have enough intellect to voice opinions on that. not just listen to one band or group.

Very presumptious of you, carpee... be careful, please, not to insult the intelligence or musical diversity of folks around here.
This remark is especially ponderous since that particular release is quite unlike what one expects from Underworld and exhibits a lot of sonic variety.

I think you need to re-read myshkin's statement if you're going to point fingers at thee carp.

I've no interest in any pointless hostility, but the point I made is very obviously valid and a suitable response to a fairly aggressive initial post about those who voted UW so high. Not that I even voted in the poll in the first place. But anyway, I'm more interested in Carp's likes in music than any aggro so hopefully we don't have to wallow in this.

what if you HONESTLY think people are being dumb and narrow-minded? what do you say? should you cloak your honest opinions behind a wall of winky faces?

like this:

wow, what a list. you guys like Underworld enough?

Nobody is asking you to cloak anything. Just don't expect people to bow down and say "Wow, my God. You are so right. I am so dumb not to agree with you. Jeez. I really must stop loving Underworld."

The point isn't about listening to one band. It's simply the inevitablity that on a forum dedicated to a particular artist, that artist is bound to finish very high up on a best of list, simply as a result of the mathematical probabilities. Also the best music can be quite difficult to even know about these days. I'd say be content to point people in interesting paths rather than get annoyed about them not listening to the particular musical treasures which you've been fortunate enough to have come across.

Re: the 2006 dirty poll: the results
I'm with Holden, Adam and Myshkin on this (with a big to Duckie and his "ivory towers" - missed the point again, dear? ). Yes, of course, people with intelligence and a variety of musical tastes should be able to express those opinions on that, as Fish Boy says. But yes, of course, people on an Underworld forum are far more likely, in general, to pay attention to an otherwise obscure film sound track that would not necessarily have so much of an impact in the wider music world.

So yeah, of course the views expressed by Dirts are likely to be different from those overall. Does that mean that we are unintelligent? Or does it mean that we have a particular kind of musical taste that encompasses the creative work of the band we (presumably) support by our adherence to this forum?

This is not a poll of all music lovers everywhere. It is not even a poll of all dance music lovers everywhere. It is a poll of Underworld fans.
