Well, i've listened a couple times to your re-edit. i am now hearing the difference you're talking about between Lp and 12"...to be honest, i don't really like the longer version, mostly because the typical ending keyboard drops out abruptly and kinda awkwardly at 7:54-7:55 and there are a few seconds of just "Rez"-style hi-hat which seems kinda sparse before the whistle outro builds again. But different strokes for different Dirties.

You did do a good job mixing the bits together, though! It is neat to have the special 9:09 "bryantm3 mix"...how'd you get the six extra seconds?

you missed my point (made with a ), which was that i dont understand why an underworld fan can listen to dubnobasswithmyheadman and find any of it "messy and annoying". you've followed it up with "what a crappy edit!", and "the crappy edit on the album bugs the shit out of me". again, nobody should listen to that album and have the shit bugged out of them! lifes too short for stressing about minor issues my friend!

anyhoo, as someone else has said, good luck with the audacity stuff i have it too and it's been great for recording all my vinyl to CD. i've also used it for a bit of tweaking to some of my dj mixes (editing out all the train wrecks!). i havent used it for any re-edits tho.

bryantm3: I havent listened to your edit yet but I have a few comments about your methods

1. rapidshare: its terrible. you can only download one file every 50 mins and they make you wait 45 secs and then sometimes it doesnt work. It also doesnt support file-resume unless youre a premium (i.e. paying) customer.

2. FLAC: Youve used FLAC for a 128kbps mp3 which makes the files much larger than it needs to be. I understand your desire to keep the quality of the file and not degrade it more by encoding again but its not necessary.

Solutions?

1: Use another service such as RapidUpload.com, or zUpload.com. They dont make you wait to download, have no limit on file downloads per hour or on size and stay there for 30 days after the last download.

2: Using mp3 @ 160kbps or 192kbps would have sufficed. Sure you may loose 0.0001% of quality but the file size would be at least 50% smaller, and not require people to install FLAC that don't have it. Of course, I have a whizz bang net connection and FLAC so I dont mind but I guess I'm just speaking for the people that don't. 57mb is a big download for a few seconds difference in an audio file "that bugs you".

As I've been typing i've downloaded and I'm just listening now and what I'm getting is that you've edited the start of the Dubno version onto the beginning of the 12" (or DirtyEpic/Cowgirl CD "Album Version") (or the other way round)? This is to put back onto the Dubno album so that it still merges with Dirty Epic nicely but has the longer ending, right? If that is the case then you've got it wrong. It doesnt start in the right place.

EDIT: I thought i'd have a go at it myself so I fired up Audition and did a quick copy paste and a normalise and the whole thing took me 2 mins. It took longer to save the file, encode it to mp3 and upload it to BigUpload.com. But I think bryan has the right idea here and I don't know why anyone didnt think of doing it earlier. Anyway, here's my version and its only 6.2mb. The track length is 9:09:996 (so it says in Audition).

i went to check your mix, Stimpee, but the softporn advert on the filesharer scared me away!

Not sure it was necessary to try to "one-up" Bryantm3, though. He did a fine job, but you've been nothing but critical in your comments to him. That's just my 2 cents. But whatever...getting an extra few seconds of whistling on "Cowgirl" outtro doesn't add anything to my experience of the track, imho

The only real criticism I had was that the track didnt start in the right place. You let the Dubno version of DirtyEpic continue onto his version and its disjointed. I just thought i'd have a go and fix it. With the points about RapidShare and FLAC, I was trying to help not criticise.

It adds an extra 42 seconds to the track

So while I was initially skeptical, I've come around to bryan's way of thinking on this one and have the 9:10 version in my Dubno folder now
