Re: DRIFT Series 1 - New album, Nov 1, 2019
Appleshine (Film Edit) is mostly the same, but technically it's a couple seconds longer with a later fade out. Also, the hi-hat through much of the track has been lowered in the mix.
Molehill is the same as the EP Threat of Rain is different from the EP only in that it fades out about 9 seconds sooner. Brussels has received the most significant changes from Episode 2. First, that fat bassline (one of my favorite parts) has been thinned out (boo). More reverb effects have been added to Karl's vocals throughout. Starting at 2:20, there are a couple noodling synth lines that have been enhanced and brought to the fore of the mix. A new synth outro begins at 3:55 and continues through the extended ending of the song. Soniamode (Aditya Game Version) is identical to the single released earlier. Appleshine Continuum has been cut so that it can fit into the runtime of the final CD, but it's not just a straight cut or a fade edit. It comes in at the 13:13 mark on the original, but not all the elements are immediately present. Most notably all The Necks' tracks are suppressed and come in gradually over the next minute or two. One other change I noticed is a hi-hat which is very prominent throughout the original track has been pushed way back in the mix. Appleshine (All the Lights) is just Appleshine with some weird Karl lyrics on it. Roof Off - an interesting, loping track. I'll have to listen to this a few more times. I noticed one important difference - the hi hat in Appleshine is turned down (at least, on the sampler - don't have the full version yet). I was really hoping they made that change since it always felt to me like it overpowered the track.

Nice catch. I'll make note of that. I think that's the same hi-hat that was downgraded in Appleshine Continuum too.

Molehill is different? The EP version I have is much shorter and doesn’t have Karl’s vocal at the end.

Was waiting for the boxset, and then was going to try to sort it all out. It's a bit tricky, but thanks for keeping up with the information. It will be good to have a separate listing along with all the other tracks. later -1 |

Re: DRIFT Series 1 - New album, Nov 1, 2019
Yet another version of Dune. On the album version, there are 3 sections, at 8:13-8:26, 9:08-9:22, and 10:03-10:17, where Rick has put a new, interrupted drum pattern to break up the flow, compared to the EP version.
Custard Speedtalk and Poet Cat appear identical to the EP versions. This Must Be Drum Street, lots of changes. Loses its 8-count kick drum intro. New guitar drone starting at 0:44. Starting at 3:24, Karl becomes a less pushy salesman, as every other instance of "Do you want to buy my car?" is dropped. A new coda begins at 5:43. Pinetum appears to be identical up to the point the original fades out and the new one continues with an extended outro for another minute and a half to a proper ending. That is, the one included with Episode 3 appears to be a fade-out edit of the full track included in Series 1. I'm not sure what Do Breakers Trip is, but I think I hate it even more than I hate Molehill. I can't imagine intentionally wanting to listen to this again. Seven Music Drone, what a great groove. I bet it would have been highly lauded if it'd been released as one of the weekly tracks. I'm sure it will also get many comparisons to Twenty Three Blue.
